Flawless logic.

It can't be completely discounted e.g. Thiaw might be lacking certain things we don't easily see i.e. vocal organisation, particularly when pressure is on at the end of a game.

There's nothing stopping Burn being the one doing the vocal organising.

I’m not saying it’s right. But we kept more clean sheets earlier in the season (although we did often setup in a back 5) with Schar starting. Thiaw has looked great but we concede more.  There are loads of other variables but like I said - I think Schar brings intangibles

I could be wrong, but I think Thiaw was also part of our early season shut outs. Our run of shipping goals is more recent, it's not coincided with Thiaw being introduced as he was in the side early on in the season IIRC.

Burn's a good defender and definitely a leader. Think it's perfectly fine to pick him. I like Schar as well. If anything I'd probably rather have Schar's passing that Burn's tallness overall but that's me.

Two CBs who can pass the ball.  :sweetjesus:

Well, ideally you'd have more than one, but ok, maybe he's worse at taking instruction in a high pressure environment? Same thing applies.

I agree with Dropout, it's not saying this is definitely the case, just that it's something worth examining.

It's not as though Schar was dropped for being relentlessly shit, and I think most would agree it's the natural time to be looking at developing the future rather than wringing every last bit of juice out of our veterans. But in the short term we're at risk of losing certain things.

I'm not against dropping Thiaw and playing Schar and Burn specifically for the derby game. Could be done on a horses for courses policy. If Sunderland don't have much pace up front, then Thiaw's pace becomes less of a factor. I don't really know enough about Sunderland's team make up to make a call on that.

Here’s a tangible: Schar needlessly gifted Burnley the ball for the move which directly led to their goal, then lost his man completely for the cross from which they should have equalised.

Another tangible: Burn gifted Spurs their first equaliser.

Silly yellow but some very good passes particularly first half. His runs into midfield do scare me at times travelling so far out of position but was never punished for it. Not sure I misheard commentary but does his yellow mean he miss the first leg of the semi?

the elder Miley we sold to Hartlepool a year and a half ago?

I don’t know, I always mixed up the Ameobi clan (3?), Longstaff clan (2?) and Miley clan (4?)
