Fabian Schär - signs a one year contract extension on reduced terms (Official)

He’s a very good player and did very well.

He was our 3rd best defender. In terms of defensive actions, Thiaw and Tino had the edge. Key defensive actions are not Hall’s primary strength or point of difference he brings to our team.

I love Fabi he's been one of our best signings ever but I'm not clamouring for his return tbh he's so painful slow these days.

So's Burn though.

I always feel more confident we're going to see a game out with Schar in the team. He's just a bit more composed and also more cynical when needed.

Games this season he's started:

Villa (a) 0-0 draw

Liverpool (h) 2-3 loss

Leeds (a) 0-0 draw

Wolves (h) 1-0 win
Barca (h) 1-2 loss (0-1 when he went off injured)
Union (a) 0-4 win
Man City (h) 2-1 win
Marseille (a) 1-2 loss
Burnley (h) 2-1 win

Before his concussion we'd had 3/4 clean sheets, then he came back in for the Union thrashing and the Man City win. Marseille capitulation is a black mark but otherwise I think our record with him in the team generally speaks for itself. I also have more faith in him to find solutions with the ball than Burn.

Not that I'm expecting him to come back in for the sunderland game, like.

True if the alternative is Burn and we are talking about mobility its indeed pick your poison. I hope the penny drops this summer about these older players like. They maybe great to have around but we can't be relying on them week in week out and expect to challenge like.

I'm not sure the penny needs to drop TBH, it's just that they've generally played so well that we've been able to prioritise other signings. We needed a whole new squad and we still haven't fully replaced everyone that is below the ultimate level we need.

Ian, they both lack mobility and it's one of the factors why we sit so deep and our midfielders have oceans of space to cover.
