Made a really good run, actually beat some players, put in shit loads of effort and actually had his head up for once looking for options. Did all the hard work and everything was perfect. Before turning inside and passing straight to a Bromley player. The pass was so tame and off target, as well. You could hear the collective groans and I think Almiron even fell over afterwards. I think he's a massive confidence player and with a consistent run in the team would regain some form. If I looked at the Chris Wood thread before he was sold, I think we would find similar comments about not capable at all at any level, let alone premier league. He's just not as comfortable doing it on the right at all. On the left he was far more comfortable going at players on the outside, on his stronger foot, and he was so rapid he could beat them for pace. Watching the Trippier/Almiron axis yesterday it is quite noticeable the physical drop off when you think how devastating they were for a spell two seasons ago. Full-backs and wingers go first in terms of miles on the clock. I think he's probably done at PL level. I thought Wood was done as well TBF but he's clearly not a player who relies on pace or stamina. He's got 3 players immediately behind him who bring all of that instead. Almirón started the FA Cup third-round victory over Bromley on Sunday, but has barely played in the Premier League as manager Eddie Howe appears to have moved on from the player. Almirón almost left in the summer but a move to Saudi Arabia fell through at the last minute in June. Although he is no longer integral to Howe’s first team plans, Almirón, who was a club record £21 million signing when he arrived from MLS side Atalanta in January 2019, has been a popular player on Tyneside. He played a key role in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League under former manager Steve Bruce and also enjoyed the best season of his career when Newcastle qualified for the Champions League under Howe in 2023.
