Miguel Almirón (now playing for Atlanta United)

Every window that goes by without us selling, the opportunity of getting a half decent fee minimises.

Will be annoyed if he’s still here at the end of the month for that reason.

There was one passage of play.  Where I think he may have won it back, or at least broke from deep.  Made a really good run, actually beat some players, put in shit loads of effort and actually had his head up for once looking for options.  Did all the hard work and everything was perfect.  Before turning inside and passing straight to a Bromley player.  The pass was so tame and off target, as well.  You could hear the collective groans and I think Almiron even fell over afterwards.

Summed up his game and his recent appearances.

I'll be derided for this, but I actually think he would do quite well at a lower table premier league team who play with a low block and counter attack. I think he's a massive confidence player and with a consistent run in the team would regain some form. If I looked at the Chris Wood thread before he was sold, I think we would find similar comments about not capable at all at any level, let alone premier league.

Anyhow, we won't find out, as he'll be off to MLS, Saudi or similar I imagine.

When he joined Rafa played him on the left and he was so much more dangerous running at players. He's just not as comfortable doing it on the right at all.

On the left he was far more comfortable going at players on the outside, on his stronger foot, and he was so rapid he could beat them for pace. And then deliver the ball or shoot without having to check back all the time.

Not sure to be honest. Watching the Trippier/Almiron axis yesterday it is quite noticeable the physical drop off when you think how devastating they were for a spell two seasons ago.

Full-backs and wingers go first in terms of miles on the clock. I think he's probably done at PL level.

I thought Wood was done as well TBF but he's clearly not a player who relies on pace or stamina. He's got 3 players immediately behind him who bring all of that instead.

Miguel Almirón is edging closer to a Newcastle Unitedexit this month with clubs in the United States, Brazil and Europe making contact over the winger.

Telegraph Sport understands there have been conversations this month with several clubs in attempts to agree a transfer. A fee has not yet been finalised with anyone but talks are set to continue.

Newcastle have been looking for as much as £12 millionfor the Paraguay international but it is not thought anyone is willing to pay that fee for the 30-year-old. The player’s wage demands have also been a sticking point in negotiations.

That is likely to mean a compromise will need to be reached but there is a growing confidence internally that Almirón will leave before the deadline.

The sale of Almirón will potentially give Newcastle more room for manoeuvre in their own attempts to strengthen the squad this month, although even if he does depart it is not certain they will do any incoming business.

Newcastle are not going to be in breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for this accounting period, but they need to sell someone if they are going to have the headroom needed to buy anyone before the June 30 accountancy deadline.

Almirón started the FA Cup third-round victory over Bromley on Sunday, but has barely played in the Premier League as manager Eddie Howe appears to have moved on from the player. Almirón almost left in the summer but a move to Saudi Arabia fell through at the last minute in June.

Although he is no longer integral to Howe’s first team plans, Almirón, who was a club record £21 million signing when he arrived from MLS side Atalanta in January 2019, has been a popular player on Tyneside.

He played a key role in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League under former manager Steve Bruce and also enjoyed the best season of his career when Newcastle qualified for the Champions League under Howe in 2023.

Another player who could leave this month is midfielder Sean Longstaff, although it is not thought the midfielder is close to finding a suitable club at the moment.

There has been some tentative interest shown in the academy graduate – whose sale would represent pure profit for Newcastle in their PSR calculation – but a move in the summer would appear more likely.

More than likely but we’ll get shit money this window or any window after. He offers nothing. We’d also have had his wages off the books for last 6 months.

Yeh fairs.

It’s all bad though.  Was it Skipp that went for £20m in the summer? No FFP funny business.  We don’t get those types of fees.

With Murphy fit and playing well, and no 23-24-style injury crisis, Miggy's stock is now lower than the summer. This opens more scope for selling a low, ahem more realistic, fee.
