Roy smiling like he just pulled off a tactical masterpiece ?

Palace have a decent squad imo - far better than ours. They should be doing much better than they are.

Another shit result and ruined wkend. Cunts.

Today showed that, for all he's done extremely well on the whole, and holds the ball up really well most of the time - Rondon's never clinical enough to be anything more than a decent centre-forward. The delivery in the second half was appalling but he spurned three or four really good chances that a better striker would have dispatched. Frustrating and it seems unfair to take a dig at him, but you lose too many games when you've got a striker who misses that many chances.

Well we all know if we stay up it's because there are three really s*** teams in the league rather than us being any good, or even half decent.

I'm shocked to learn that a team that is 15th in the league is shite.

Annoying. Totally undeserved, a draw would have been a fair result really. Their goal crushed our spirit and Yedlin's a fucking idiot and we had no one ready to step in with Rondon clearly having an off day. Thought the ref was impressive.

f***ing sick of Zaha going down in the box and getting a penalty every time, seem to be the only tactic these f***ers have. Was a foul for them winning the ball off us. Absolutely robbed us blond today, getting that amount of luck and cheating does pay off.

Was a clear penalty, what are you going on about?

We have only scored 31 goals this season so far. We need more than just Rondon up front to fix that.

Not often we have more possession than the opposition, but we never seemed to use it to create any clear cut chances. Sometimes we just never look like scoring. Saying that, still feel like we have been robbed. Not a great result really with teams below is with games in hand. So hit and miss at home.

We’re naturally hamstrung by having a back-3. I get that the wingbacks are meant to provide width in the attacking third, but neither Ritchie nor Yedlin are up for it. If we could get two decent fullbacks and go back to a back-4, that’d free up another player to attack.

Agreed but he's responsible for the low tally when he's missing chances like he did today. I don't want to be overly critical because he does a shit-ton of great work for the side, but he's more accountable than a few others for today's result.

Thought the injury to Lejeune was a huge turning point, by the way. Lengthy stoppage when we were on top and we became less organised and more leggy shortly after the sub. There were several occasions throughout the game where we needed to urgently re-position ourselves and tackle a Palace counter... up until about 70 minutes or so, we were doing fine in that regard. The break which ultimately led to the penalty was just one urgent defensive re-shuffle too many. Not to forgive Yedlin for what was still a fucking stupid attempt at a tackle.

A disappointing result that reflects the meh level of the team. We are too dependent on too few things that can go right. It's a given that our midfield will not step up and score, for example. You'd have to be mad to expect that to happen.

The penalty was all too predictable. I predicted it myself at half time. It happened because Yedlin is error prone and hasn't been replaced due to the shoestring approach of the club. His attacking play in the first half had been good, so it was a shame for him. He's just not a very good defender.

I hope Lejeune is an inflammation and not another tear. It was him that missed our best chance, but that was more a reflection on what the others managed to create. This game was there to be won and the distance we came up short leaves a bad taste.

Tbh, I don't think anything other than their goal changed anything, we were still pushing for the win up until that point but that completely popped our balloon really.

I do wonder if Benitez does get a decent budget in the summer will it be spent on players to get the best out of a 4-2-3-1 system or 3-4-3 system.

Need to fix our central midfield. Playing 3 are the back means we are sacrificing an extra attacker which is understandable given how weak we are.

To play this way against weaker or equivalent sides at home, you need genuine threat from one of the 2 midfielders or the wingbacks and right now there is neither. This is a very blunt side that relies on the physicality of Rondon and the energy/opportunism of the two other attackers to create most of the chances.

We need to spend big in central midfield in the summer because we just don't have the quality that teams like Leicester and Wolves have.

Could argue we should have got in at halftime leading but when LeJeune went off and Benteke come on, we got done tactically. They switched it round, we got sucked in and they've got the players who can break. Not sure why it took them so long and obvious but worked a treat. They had another couple of breaks before that where they should have done better so it was coming. Benteke should have really scored and I think Dummett had a toe end interception where it would have been one on one with our keeper. For all the stats will say we did ok in that half, did we really have a proper chance? Loads of proverbial huffing and puffing but nowt what you could say was a proper chance.

Reminded me of the Wolves game at home a bit. Seemed to unnecessarily play into what they are good at.

Shelvey was tripe as well.

Game lost due to a shocking piece of defending and a challenge that needn't have been made. Thought Schar's challenge seconds before that was needless also. Until there is an upgrade in both wing back positions then we will not move forward. Even then there is a number of other positions need filling also.

I've been stating Shelvey should have been playing, but his attitude when he came on was not good. As commented on already, if you don't take your chances then you leave yourself open for the sucker punch. Almiron played well especially the first 65 minutes.
