Sean
Whether he's a Pulitzer prize finalist or a Loeb winner, he is only as good as his sources. Would anyone be certain those 'sources' aren't full of shit though? Because it has to be a distinct possibility when it comes to this club and takeovers. TRon
The one strand of comfort in all of this is the recent sale of the land next to SJP which in terms of his actual ownership of NUFC, is or was the bigger long-term solid tangible asset worth holding on to the most. To the business operations of the club, as a single owned asset/piece of land of his independent of the club to keep if selling the club or sell with the club or to develop on his own for other business purposes. By all accounts he sold it quite cheaply and was happy to use it as a way in which his son-in-law could set himself up in business or earn some stripes in the business world from. Trying to second guess or make logic of Ashley’s decisions and dealings is pointless and even more so when for me anyway, here is a man who I not only consider to be a shit businessman, but also a very stupid and dumb person intellectually, academically and socially. But when it comes to land and owning land, even someone as dumb as him especially with all those added advisers and so-called no doubt self claimed experts paid to steer him away from all-out stupidity, you don’t just give stuff away like he seemingly has with that land. Season tickets aye, but prime land he owns lock stock, forever. Doing so may add to how dumb and stupid he really is because, well he’s that dumb and stupid, but it may also be one last parting shot of spite of his giving the club, fans and even would-be new owners the middle finger, one last show of its my ball and yous can’t play so nerrr. Or not. An intelligent businessman does not sell that land, mind an intelligent businessman would have NUFC where Spurs are or thereabouts, a club whose commercial revenue and prospective future potential on and off the field NUFC were way ahead of when Ashley bought the club. Any sale will come about as the result of nothing more than the whim or roll of a dice of an idiot billionaire spoilt man child. That’s what we’ve had to put up with for 12 years, pity those negotiating with him to buy him out. I feel more pity, however, for all those even more dumber and stupid than Ashley, imagine being that person who paid him to buy a season ticket he would have paid for that person to have himself anyway if they showed a bit more patience and waited a bit more longer like 10,000 others did. These dumb cunts will be first in line to pay him again next season guaranteed. I don't really see that as a positive. If he's sold off the land at a cheap price to his son in law, that just makes the club a less attractive proposition to any potential buyers. The only people who have benefited from that are the Ashley clan, the club itself seems to have been screwed over royally.
James
Tad harsh in Odin there, it is widely expected that Coronavirus will dampen the worldwide economy, and disproportionately affect companies who rely on Chinese supply chains. https://www.theguardian.com/news/2020/feb/10/will-the-coronavirus-outbreak-derail-the-global-economy It is certainly going to dampen annual results for companies like Sports Direct, although at best it would stop Ashley going into negotiations with a very strong hand. At a minimum you’d expect SD annual accounts to refer to Coronavirus or wider global shocks as a mitigating factor.

At a minimum you’d expect SD annual accounts to refer to Coronavirus or wider global shocks as a mitigating factor. Or SD may actually benefit as people buy down existing stocks as newer lines aren't as available - increasing the cash in the company. Long term yes there will be a negative as stock runs out, but if this lasts 2-3 months don't be surprised to see him come out smelling of roses
Stifler
How will it help SD? SD have stuff made in China and Asia. I’d say Addidas are struggling with normal production demand, you will bet that they will be trying to supply their elite customers and their own stores/website first, before they move on to Mike who pays much less and buys their entry level stock. With the Euro’s coming round and new season coming later in the year, football teams/clubs are going to be wanting their supplies ahead of Ashley taking stock for SD, and Ashley wanting the cheap gym stuff. TRon
As if we're preparing to buy people anyway. WE do buy players though, they are seen as potential assets if we can get them at the right age and price. We'll probably sell a couple and reinvest that money in some new players who are contractually suited for a purchase. Maybe before pre-season training starts, Charnley will inform Bruce who his new players are and to think about where they might fit into Bruce's plans. SD have a pile em high sell em cheap mentality, they were sat on just shy of £1billion of stock at their year end, 169 days worth of stock so they can whether a month or two's disruption. A lot of that will be Lonsdale tat that is a secondary choice for customers and therefore slower moving. If your core stock lines are short then the likelihood of these secondary lines being sold increases - reduce your stock, increase your cash without impacting your margin. TRon
"If the leak is from Mike Ashley’s side why would he do this when he repeatedly claims that it is the exact opposite of how he likes to do business? Unless of course there was suspicion about the nature of the bid or a doubt over finances, for example." "I remain firmly of the belief that if you understand Mike Ashley, how he works and his influencers and agree to his terms, in his way and maintain confidence he will sell to anyone, as long as you have the money." Fuck right off.
