His main strength is the physicality he brings but we are moving away from being that team. There's simply too many games for that to be game plan every match. And even then over the last season or so he's been struggling with his own fitness. He was a perfect fit for us over the last few years. He just isn't anymore and I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn into more of a bench player.
The College Dropout
Joelinton was instrumental In the cup win and finishing 5th with some major performances in wins against the top 6 and ragdolling some of the Lower sides. That justifies the contract to me. HOWEVER - from a long term sustainability view Ashworths plan to move him on a few seasons ago was correct. It will be harsh to shift him with uefa counting it imo. Anyway I hope he has a wonderful season and gets to the World Cup and contributes.
Elliottman
I think Ramsay takes his place long term but still has a huge role to play. I just don’t think he can maintain his top levels playing 2 or 3 times a week. But he’s far from done.

I still remember how I got slated for saying Ashworth was right to move him But then what I want to say now is, we gambled, albeit a bad one, and we won it - everyone here said we want to break the trophy curse whatever it takes. So even if we need to pay the price now, I hope everyone remember it is for the cup win. Joe has done his job brilliantly. He has given it all. All of them that had a major hand in that win can do no wrong in my eyes unless they go the Isak route. Big Joe was a monster in the final. I will never forget. It doesn’t matter if I think we should have moved him on, I can only speak of him with the utmost respect. Sean Longstaff hitting that winner against Forest. Pivotal moment. Abacus
I do think these daft international breaks have had a bad effect on us. Joe and Bruno travelling halfway around the world is not great in an already congested fixture list, quite apart from our other internationals having to travel and play in different formations, picking up injuries etc. It's not much different for other teams but we've only just got a squad that could cope with all the extra games we have. Decky
Joelinton has been class for us in recent seasons so Ashworth was absolutely wrong trying to move him on when he did. The right time may well be next summer not a couple of years ago.

I just wish international football would fuck off into a corner and die the slow death it deserves. It’s absolute shite supported by mostly whoppers. As much as I love him, he looks a diminishing power with diminishing resale value. In our position, you want to sell our star players right at the end of their peak. 1-2 years before a drop off in performance and value. Ancelloti just selected him and while he didn’t pull up any trees (he’s off form just now) he still has a chance to go to the WC with Brazil. Also I’d say he’s the biggest goal threat we have in midfield so he brings more than just physicality to our team. I used to enjoy watching him play at LW but EH clearly doesn’t anymore! Anyway, I disagree and think he’ll get back to form and contribute a lot again. Time will tell.
Erikse
Looked so clunky with the ball a couple of times. Someone suggested to me that he might be carrying something with the way he runs. Is this a real possibility, or is it just bad form? I also like him at LW, but we have 2 other options there now. SUPERTOON
Poor again today, feel like we are trying to transition the way we play and he is suffering the most.

I thought he was quietly quite good today. For 70 odd minutes we were littered with unforced errors across the team, but can't recall him making any, and he largely ticked things over and did his share of the donkey work effectively. It wasn't his explosive best by any stretch but he was a good 7-7.5 for me. I am concerned however that his physical style of play is catching up with him and the niggly injuries will still to pile up.
geordie_b
Looked very tired early into the game and surprised he stayed on for the full
Elliottman
Offered very little today, was hoping he’d be rested. Have to assume Tonali and Ramsay just weren’t quite ready to step in.

Was this post pre-planned like Eddie's second half subs? On a day when most players dropped a clanger or two I can't remember him losing the ball at all and thought he had a good game. andycap
My joint man of the match with thiaw. Thought he was the best of the three in midfield won the ball and released it quickly a big improvement from last week.

Disagree. He wasn’t his usual all action self. But he wasn’t cheaply giving the ball away like the rest of his teammates. He was good at holding it up and was a great out ball to start off attacks and counters a lot of the time. He kept finding pockets of space centrally. He doesn’t look fit to me. Not radge enough and doesn’t seem to move freely. Went down 3 times in the first 10 minutes and all.

Smal
I thought he was good yesterday on the eye test, and just glancing at them the stats back it up. Second most progressive passes (7, 1 behind Bruno), most tackles (4), most duels won on the pitch (10/13,), and most recoveries (6). Should've scored that header, mind. I thought he was good yesterday - his shielding of the ball and laying it off simply was very good.- sprayed the ball wide quite nicely in the 1st half too Positionally I would prefer him to drop a bit deeper and cover Burn (and Hall/Tino in the long term) - allow Bruno to make them forward runs

His value is also when opponent tries to press. He can shield the ball and win freekicks and go past his man etc.
Lush Vlad
Why is Joelinton trying to get 3 red cards in one sitting when we’re 2 up after 80 odd minutes So needless. Yet so so good
