Positive Optimism - Saudi Takeover Edition

Recommended Posts

The latest from Mark Douglas...for those of you not wanting to read via the chronicle website.

The Saudi PIF remain committed to the Newcastle United deal, although there will be no public statements to that effect.

The PIF and chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan's return to the fore of late has seen plenty of coverage of their aspirations for the next few years - including an intriguing quote from Al-Rumayyan, who would have been on Newcastle's board, that professional sport remains a "priority" for the fund.

It was always felt by those close to the deal that PIF would look elsewhere to invest in professional football if the Newcastle deal was definitively over. With things still rumbling in the background, there are assurances that won't happen.

The deal - brought up in Parliament this week again - continues to be spoken about. A recent meeting of Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Swaha with UK minister for Investment Gerry Grimstone was noted by some takeover watchers. Lord Grimstone was performing "shuttle diplomacy" on behalf of the group last summer.

But for those who see it as a smooth ride, the International Olympic Committee's decision press for Saudi to be kept on a "blacklist" of potential rogue states when it comes to piracy illustrates the work still to be done.

Interestingly, Rafa Benitez looks to be in no hurry to commit to a club while the takeover saga plays out. He was linked with the Marseille job in midweek but a return to Newcastle under new, monied owners would be a dream ticket for the Spaniard.

Has the forum ever talked more about a single individual that isn't actually involved at the club itself? Tedious as f***. www.Bloke From Whitley Bay-Online.

Unfortunately Yorkie what may be tedious to some is interesting to others, no one is forcing you to read it.

Er, actually, I wouldn't mind reading it, and I wouldn't mind discussing it, or a bit of theorising here and there - the prospect of a takeover remains a welcome distraction in the context of A, the pandemic and B, the monotonous drivel served up by everything else NUFC. But it's basically impossible at this point to get involved in any sort of debate, without first wading through mountains of shit centering on the activities of one particular Twitter account and one particular person who, in reality, isn't actually worth anywhere near this amount of discussion.

You can't just monopolise a corner of the forum and then say 'fuck off if you don't want to read it.'

Anyway, I'm helping no one by perpetuating this rubbish so crack on.

You’re fun to be with....if you fell in a pit of breasts, you’d be the one to come out with a dummy?

Unfortunately Yorkie what may be tedious to some is interesting to others, no one is forcing you to read it. Like it or not this bloke has a legal action pending with the PL, the PL will not want some information disclosed into the public domain, and thereby his action is a very real threat to them. So whether you think he is central to all this or a peripheral figure, any bits of info from someone in contact with buyer and seller is useful at this point.

Keep it coming Whitley. This thread is for people like us who revel in the thought that “one day” we’ll be rid of this thief. People are welcome to have their own views on the subject but please don’t come in here and criticise the likes of Whitley and Manorpark for their updates. If you don’t like what they have to say, stay in the “takeover thread”.

Nah, most people on the forum revel in that thought, this threads for complete blind optimism.

A tosser prepared to sacrifice a years salary and spend huge sums to assist this takeover. We could certainly do with more tossers in the fan base.

So WM claims he isn't Keith, yet claims to know how much the case is setting him back in personally, not just the monetary value.

Also, it isn't (setting him back personally, I mean). Anyone that thinks someone forks out an entire years salary on this (bearing in mind the salary is dropped by tax etc.) is clearly a bit simple.

I’ll humour you despite you’re insults.

He’s publicly stated it has set him back 50k so far in legal fees, and that he has ceased work for a year to facilitate this, including that he has turned down work also in this period. You’ll have to ask him with regards to his tax matters, however unless you believe he is lying all his claims have been made in the public domain.

Anyone with the slightest bit of sense believes you, sorry he, is lying

You really needed to drag the "Keith on twitter" discussion into yet another week? Get a life man

This has the potential to be interesting for a Monday night.

What the same person who was barred by the BBC and even the Chronicle took down a piece from him last year as they found it to be incorrect. Nope I'll give that one a miss thanks.

I said interesting, i wouldn’t believe a word that comes out his mouth either. I’m just interested to see how he comes across in person more than anything, especially after reading his tweets on the subject for nearly a year.

So is literally any softening of anxieties between Saudi/Qatar potentially seen as a takeover stumbling block being removed?

It’s probably a bit tongue in cheek from Slater, however it certainly can’t be a bad thing. The big thing for us is Bein being reinstated, WTO appeal and Bein legal case against Saudi’s being dropped.

I've switched off until I hear anything of real substance happening.

The positivity thread keeps on giving.

Kinda only half listening but Ben jacobs saying the Saudi government injected a load of cash in to PIF to bail them out after covid started and that raised a lot of questions for the PL

From Rob Elliot

"Whenever I see anyone, they always ask us what's going on and stuff and to be honest with you, as players, we don't know much," Elliot told the What's Next podcast.

"When the takeover was going on, everyone was like, 'What's going on? What's going on?' I don't know!

"If the Saudis come in with all this money to spend, do you think they're going to give me a new contract or go out and sign [Gianluigi] Buffon?

"They're basically not going to tell the lads because they're just going to sack all of us anyway and buy a load of superstars so they're not going to tell us they're coming in. I always try and say that to people.

"They're not going to say, 'Oh yeah, the takeover is happening lads. Get ready. Oh, by the way, we've just signed four superstars tonight and we don't need any more goalies anymore!'"

I heard that and he was Implying that proved they weren't legally separate. A government bailout doesn't prove they are of the same entity.
