Mark Gillespie

The 4th choice keeper is the least of our worries, although its shocking to think he'll still be picking up around £5k a week.

He's probably a similar level to the 2nd and 3rd choice keepers. That's the bigger issue.

It must be class to be Mark Gillespie. Fairly limited, relatively, but has had a decent enough career in Leagues Ones and Two, most of it at fairly nearby Carlisle, and a spell in the SPL, played almost 300 games, but then (re)joins his hometown club where he will surely be picking up north of 10k a week.

No matchday pressure, and will first hand be experiencing the change of mood and atmosphere. He has one year left on his contract, and not sure if that will be extended, or if he'll look to head back down the lower leagues, but for now, as a fan, he'll be loving life.

I think it's clear Howe wants to keep the group dynamic as much as possible for this season, whether Gillespie or Dummett make the full squad or not. Guessing the behind the scenes leadership group with Ritchie, Lascelles, et al, is worth it.

Serious question, what is the logic for his renewal?

im guessing we will be trying to flog dubs as 4 keepers is too many imo.

#vibes?

I'll be amazed if he's on that.  Probably 5k.

Still nice work if you can get it. 5k a week for sitting around in the vague hope that 3 people better than you aren't available. Don't know how the poor guy copes

14k a month after tax and pension...while being coached to be fit as hell and being able to say you're a footballer....I'd be dead in a week with drink, tarts, and fine dining

How often will a 3rd choice keeper play realistically? Caig was here, never played a game, Gillespie has played a few cup games in 3 years. If he's on £5k a week, it makes more sense than having a £20-30k a week keeper like Darlow or Karius would likely be on.  Dubravka is probably on £50-60k ish so get shot of two from those three and keep Gillespie. FFP and all that.

Not a fan of his. Nothing to do with his talent or attitude, it's just my aversion to goalkeepers who have the surnames of outfield players, especially ones who played for us.

Contract was renewed some time ago, just wasn't announced. Does he count as one of our academy players for the UEFA squad, or did he leave too soon for that? May have some impact on the decision.

According to Capology the keepers wages per week are Pope 60k, Dubravka 40k, Karius and Gillespie both 10k.

So if Karius and Gillespie have both been offered deals you have to assume we'll try and move Dubravka on and Darlow will more than likely be given away to Hull or another Championshit team.
