Somebody work out how much we’ve paid him over the years dived by game time

Actually don’t

:okay:

According to this site (Which is very likely to be wrong): https://www.capology.com/player/jamal-lewis-35820/

He was on £45k a week, which equates to £2,340,000 per year.

He has been here for 5 seasons, which means we've paid him £11,700,000 in his time at the club.

We apparently paid around £15m for him from Norwich, which means he's cost us a total of £26,700,000.

He played a total of 36 games of us, which means per game played he cost £741,666.

He started 27 games for us, which means per start he cost £988,888.

He played a total of 2580 minutes for us, which means per minute on the pitch he cost £10,348.

Incredible to think we did all that under an Ashley regime.

Nice chap, terrible signing, probably the worst fullback I’ve seen play, and there’s a lot of competition for that honour.

His next contract elsewhere will be at best a tenth of that deal, total drain on the clubs resources for zero contribution.

Just Hayden to go now from the bomb squad.

Not that it really matters, but we’ll have been getting some contribution towards his salary when he was out on loan.

So maybe 9 grand a minute instead of 10…

Was he that bad? Genuinely can't remember but I just saw him as a bit of a nothing player who seemed to lack any sort of belief and got injured a lot as opposed to being absolutely terrible.

he was really bad, yeah. One of the worst I’ve seen play for us.

He didn’t even try to defend crosses and was responsible for a goal going in practically every game for a while. Going forward he just… didn’t. Always passed it back or 5 yards to the side. He never had any confidence at all.

I just remember that home game against Brighton in 2020 where he was shredded over and over. His positioning was shocking, and for a full back that is a fatal flaw.

Perhaps if he’d had better coaching after he was signed he might have done ok.

Easily one of our worst signings in recent years. Just had nothing about him. No drive, no backbone, completely unable to improve enough to gain trust.

No one was interested in him really though. The WB at Norwich that everyone was interested in was Maxwell Aarons, who didn’t live up to his promise.

As like anything with Ashley, we bought him because he was young and cheap, and they thought that if he had a decent season they could cash in on him.

Was pretty excited when we signed him. Liverpool had him earmarked for the "Tsimikas" role and as Robertson's successor but we offered more and first-team football. Just never happened for him, shame. Could see him at Rangers or back at Norwich or something.

His performance against Brentford in the league cup QF during the covid season was one of the worse performances I can remember from a Newcastle player in recent times....

Remember being excited when we signed him too purely for the reason that klopp was meant to be after him so just assumed he was gonna be half decent lol.... Good luck to him though  👍 lol

Norwich made some decent money from highly rated young defenders who never reached their potential.  Lewis with us, Aarons with Bournemouth and Godfrey at Everton.

Still certain we signed him just because Liverpool were interested and it appeared to be a bit of a coup

At that stage going after Liverpool targets they didn't follow through on probably seemed like a sound strategy. But we should probably have done some scouting of our own as well just so might have picked up that he couldn't actually defend.
