When you're saying Keegan and Robson's teams I'm thinking of the finished best XI tbh, that's why I'm saying neither get in and, apples and oranges but Cabaye wasn't better than Speed for me, definitely not. Different sort of midfielder but Cabaye measures up to him for me. Up until Ben Arfa got in the team and Cisse arrived, Coloccini, Cabaye & Ba were our 3 class acts keeping us within the top 4 chase. Could ping a great set piece and play a great pass but he was massively a moments player for me. Couldn't really dribble with the ball and physically never dominated games - I think you need at least one of the two to be a top class modern centre mid. Abacus Posted May 17, 2022 Share Posted May 17, 2022 I think Cabaye really flourished for being alongside peak Tiote. He did the physical stuff, and let Cabaye get on with the playmaker role. Cabaye did have a decent 'whippy' tackle if he needed to make one mind. A bit like Beardsley, come to that I think that's the thing with debates about great players - it's often about who they are playing with and that connection as much as it is about their individual skill. Incredible strength to hold off the defender followed by that strike, would've instantly been goal of the season by a country mile.
