His podcast has been a must-listen recently, he's spent all season rinsing Antonio about Scamacca signing and then Ings signing and him being benched, and now the shoe is very much on the other foot.

In fairness to both of them, they've done exactly what you said and upped their game in response rather than sulking/giving up, and both are definitely looking back to their peak.

He just seems the kind of character who cannot accept anyone being better than him at anything, which is probably why he's made it as far as he has.

Yeah. Think it's quite telling that even Howe himself said (in the presser before last) that Wilson was more likely to be bothered about finishing top goalscorer than any other attacker.

Wilson is a proper alpha lad [emoji38] he looks in pain when asked about Isak in interviews. Saw a podcast clip where he was getting riled about being called supersub as well.

Pretty sure NUFCTV didn't go there in their latest post-match with him. He had scored a fantastic goal, tbf.

Any other day the chat would be about him being on fire and scoring an absolute beauty to bins. But then Isak does that and the world goes bananas. He’s still the top boy and I think he recognises that the competition makes him better. Him and Isak together has the potential to be devastating.

Yeah I thought he was a bit of a dick in that, touting himself as the centre forward and Isak as a wide player.

How else would you expect a top class centre forward to make his case? That's not being a dick, it's absolute self-certainty, a trait which Isak also seems to have. They are fighting for one spot really, both are firing all guns. It's just great to see they are not letting it affect them negatively and they are still big enough to see each other's value.

Just want to add, that first goal he scored took some real striker's instinct. He could easily have had his shin done there poking that in when there was a defender coming in studs up.

I think Mykolenko pulls out a bit very last second if you watch the replay but yeah, Wilson knew he was getting a big bruise regardless to get that goal

Wilson is likely going to be playing CL football for the first time at the age of 31, and seems to have improved himself, both partly because of Isak's arrival (the former undeniably so). I get the impression he recognizes that, and think CL will mean a lot to him - he's definitely got a cockiness and competitiveness about him, but from what I've seen of him it seems to be in a healthy rather than toxic way.

It’s pretty straightforward, you put the team first with an answer like ‘I always want to play, so does Isak but it’s down to the gaffer. All we can do is keep giving him a selection problem.

Our joint 9th PL 'all-time' top scorer now, joint with Ayoze on 33 goals. One more will take him to joint 8th with Rob Lee. 4 within Nobby and Cisse on 37. One more solid season should take him up to 2nd or 3rd. (He's 10 off Cole and Shola in joint 3rd, and 14 off Peter Beardsley in 2nd.

(Incidentally our next highest current player is Miggy in 18th)

Joint 8th with Rob Lee <3.

Equals his most PL goals in a season that he achieved with Bournemouth.

edit: outright 8th, and most PL goals in a season for him outright

Deserved a hat trick.

Totally understand managing his minutes due to his injury issues previously. But I think in a one off game against Arsenal it's time to go all out with Isak and Wilson starting. (If Longstaff is injured)

He looked finished in that slump after the world cup.  And now he's playing at the very peak of what he has ever offered.  Incredible turnaround.

Pretty sure he had Covid. Been there. Listless for weeks.
