Callum Wilson set to be out for around 8 weeks with new hamstring injury (Howe)

Captain obvious here, but a fit Wilson and we’d easily be top six so far.

No - not sure about that with the performances so far this season

Last season, yes for sure.

Last season was a good season overall, very good style of play, lots of goals, high ranks on all metrics, it was literally just injuries - otherwise it would have been another top 4 season, I'm confident of that.

This season has been a disaster so far, literally no game we have dominated fully where we've fully deserved to win. No player is really in form. Even the purples are struggling.

The team does need fresh blood and perhaps the tactics need freshening up as its' all become stale and predictable

Wilson probably scores his penalty at Everton. Scores one of the chances created v Brighton. Scores one of the headers in the second half. Pointless to discuss sadly because he’s never fit.

It's not pointless to discuss though, we knew this about Wilson's fitness for the last two windows and the club chose not to act. We've gambled on Isak's form and fitness yet again and this time (so far anyway) we've lost in a big way.

I said it in another thread but look at our rivals in the table all with genuine options to bring on up front, and we've deliberately chosen to buy a kid without a PL goal who we only trust with stoppage time cameos. It's bordering on negligence and as you've articulated in your post, you can start racking up the points we've missed out on because of it and we're only in October.

I can't bring myself to be mad at Wilson himself because we all knew he'd be available sporadically at best, but for some reason the club chose to ignore this fact and it's playing out exactly as you'd expect.

He's been out so long now I'm not sure what player we would be getting back when he finally plays another game anyway. He was pretty poor whenever he played last season I thought. Looked like injuries and age had caught up with him and he had lost most of his pace.

It does seem like he has been missing forever.

Yep. Said when he first signed I was surprised how quick and mobile he was. He hasn’t been anywhere near that for quite a while and last season he was miles off where we needed him to be.

Even in 22/23, he turned into a massive poacher despite his excellent goal scoring record that season.

We desperately need him back, as much as I hate still having to rely on him he's a fantastic striker in the fleeting times he's fit.

We need to get rid of him ASAP. break out of this stupid cycle we have somehow found ourselves in.

We do need to replace him or relegate him to last choice, but at this point in the season with the fixtures coming up, I’d rather he be fit until Jan window so he can offer us something different.

There are those that say any striker coming in would have to be 3rd choice, but they really wouldn't be as Wilson is never ever fit. A lull in Isak's form and bam! you're first choice.

I reckon the thing with Wilson is that he's super ambitious, but he realises he can't beat Shearer's goal record so he's going to eclipse michael owen's sick record instead.

Almost anything being a few percent better would mean this. We’re very close.

You could say that about most teams though?

All it takes is Wilson to score that missed Gordon penalty against Everton and the Isak miss against Brighton and we are 6th level on points with Chelsea.

It's the thing Eddie said in that last press conference, and i'm paraphrasing.. but.. "we had hoped he'd be back but Callum didn't feel that he was ready yet. he's a bit hypersensitive to any issue"

That to me says he couldn't be arsed playing through a niggle.

He's at the back end of his career, like what's he saving himself for?

One last contract?

Don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that we would be top 6 if he was fit. Goals changes momentum of a game massively, especially for us when we don't really dominate the game even against the weaker teams in the league.

Thought he looked slow and sluggish last season. Like his injuries and age finally caught up. Remember Forest away seemed to spend the whole game wrestling with their CBs. Mind you, his finishing was still lethal and movement and positioning in the box. But definitely slower when running outside the 18 yards box.

Probably yeah, why we shouldn’t base too many opinions on results or league position

Not at this stage of the season, no. We should be looking at performances and the team starting to knit together.

After about 13 league games in we’ll have a better idea of where we’re at.

I think when he comes back he won't look so good. Like others have said, I thought he was noticeably worse last season, as if injuries have caught up. I also think his finishing was no where near what it was the couple seasons before, and this is his bread and butter with his age

Happy to be proven wrong, love him as a player and he could, us loads
