The concern for Brighton I'd say is despite all the pressure, all the stats, most of the shots were scramble blocked shots as opposed to clear 1 on 1s. They arguably scored with their clearest chance, and I can't remember Guaita actually having much to do which sounds odd I know.

I mean surely, surely they won't actually go down if they keep up that level of performance - but it's not bad luck they're down there.

They need a better striker, maupay isn't good enough to rely goals on.

I've said it often, but I'll say it again. Their strikers aren't just not good enough, they're horseshit. Maupay is a disgrace. The positions he gets himself in to only to fluff a weak shot pretty much every single time is embarrassing. If I was ever to put money on a Brighton goalscorer it'd be Dunk. It's astonishing they havent addressed it. They wouldn't need to spend much to drastically improve.

EDIT: Fuck me. I forgot their last attempt to address it was the notoriously prolific Danny fucking Welbeck. If I was a Brighton fan I'd be furious.

Bit harsh?  He got 10 goals in his maiden Premier League season and is on course for the same return this season.  Rondon did similar numbers for us and we thought he was wonderful.  He could definitely score more, but given that he’s still a few years away from his peak and seems a constant menace in the Bellamy sort of mould whenever i watch them, then i’d say he’s pretty useful player.  You’ve nailed their main problem though, he shouldn’t be carrying the weight of the goal burden for them.

From a wanting Newcastle to stay up perspective, I wasn't sure what I was wanting last night. I think Brighton are and were the better side, but then Palace did have 3 extra points on the board (before kick off).

Brighton's goal difference was -5 (compared to our -17), and their 6 league results before yesterday were:

Leeds 0 BHA 1

BHA 0 Fulham 0

BHA 1 Spurs 0

Liverpool 0 BHA 1

Burnley 1 BHA 1

BHA 0 Villa 0

So unbeaten in 6, 12 points picked up, obviously not many goals scored, but only 1 conceded. They were around 22-28/1 to go down, but I think a lot of that would have been on the assumption of extending their run over Palace. That was a bitter blow for them, no doubt about it, and they're now around 11/1 to go down, but I still find it hard to see them not picking up enough points/wins to have no real concerns, despite just being the one point ahead of us. They have WBA, Southampton and Newcastle in their next 4 games, so I think we'll know far more about their relegation credentials after that period.

I'd have been more confident of Palace sinking like a stone had they lost, but think that win all but confirms their safety.
