About 2009 in the bar of Northenden Golf Club. I had just played a round with a young lad from work (scratch golfer) who was a Man Utd fan. Denis was good company and very good with his clearly awe struck fan boy. RIP.

Probably the start of my love/hate relationship with Newcastle.

bigfella
As a young lad of 12, I entered a competition in the programme to name your favourite player and why, in thirty words or less. I wrote a gushing eulogy to Alan Shoulder and got part of my entry printed in the next edition. Still pisses me off that the winner used "1000" as one word, where "one thousand" would have taken their entry to thirty one words and therefore would have been disqualified. Robbed. RIP Alan. Thanks. I think I remember seeing an interview with him, might have been on the official history dvd or something, where he was talking about getting signed by us and travelling up to St James on the bus with the fans on match days or such like. Changed times...... Doc
Remember getting his autograph when he was watching a game at Blackhall Welfare, I must have been about 10 so pretty much at the time he joined us, no recollection of the game but he had a canny sheepskin on. 🙂 RIP Alan.

I very nearly owned a house on Chretien Road a couple of years back which I assume once backed onto it before the sellers pulled out and we had to go with our second choice a few hundred yards away.  Oh and if it was you, I no longer think you’re a twat.
