Because we can't afford to replace both. How much would two Premier League level midfielders cost in your opinion?

Add to that the fact that massive squad turnover isn't helpful for team dynamics and both those players have been mainstays of the team for years now so it would be a drastic change for players around them.

Also your last point doesn’t really make sense, Willock hasn’t been a regular starter for two years and Longstaff has barely played this season. Players aren't stupid and can obviously see that the trajectory of the club is upwards, which is going to necessitate some players moving on. If nothing else it stops people becoming complacent and things going stale. Something which I think we all had fears about in the early months of the season. A continual churn is good for keeping everyone on their toes and striving to perform.

Do you really want a lot of players hanging around the place, who know they aren’t good enough to be starters for the team? Both Willock and Longstaff are at different stages of their careers than Dummett and Ritchie, they could have good careers elsewhere, they just aren’t the right fit for Newcastle as we currently play any longer.

People updating individual player's threads to slag them off instead of just posting in the match thread simply because they know, if they did, their post would quickly disappear are attention seeking arseholes 😉

At least wait until they game's finished 😎

People putting a wink face at the end of their post because they haven't got the arsehole to properly call someone out simply don't have an arsehole.

I don’t think he’s shocking but I don’t rate him at the same time.

This ☝️ he’d be a good player for a counter attacking side. Doesn’t have the ability when your team has the bulk of possession. It’s why Arsenal let him go

Done here.

He’s checked out. He’s not even trying, literally letting their players walk past him with the ball. Just stands there a lot of the time as the game is played around him.

Not good enough, and not worth keeping just to have sitting on the bench.

Sell him to a newly promoted club, he might be good enough for them, and might play better being a big fish in a little pond.

I genuinely think Longstaff / Miley would give a better performance today. It’s shocking, and what’s even worse is it’s not the first time this season. He is having a shocking season so far

To the Willock thread! Never mind that he was easily our best in the midfield 3 and Bruno and Tonali were both really poor.

Hes a squad player, no more. I disagree that hes not trying at all though, I just don’t think hes good enough.

Had his chance at a run in team and done nothing. Been poor all season. Time to give Miley a run until the end of the season.

Hopefully we don't see him again and he goes in the summer. Absolutely trash.

Trash is a bit harsh - the lad has ability which he has proved in the past he has just not found his form

Literally waited for opposition players in possession to pass him before he started to make a half arsed attempt to jog back.

I’be always defended his as not being good enough, but he’s actively not tried today. I think he knows he’s never breaking into this team, and it is only a matter of time before he’s moved on and has checked out.

Yes, because his performances are under scrutiny as we await him to show us something to suggest he's good enough to be part of the team going forward. Tonali and Bruno both had individually poor games, but I don't think this is about individual games with Willock anymore. It's probably been approaching 2 years since he performed well and he's now had ample opportunity.

First game in a while starting and he done alright.

He has attributes that could be vital in the run in.

So don't knock him.

It’s becoming painfully obvious we need a better 4th midfielder. I’d be listening to offers for Willock and Longstaff in the summer.

Did kind of okay, but needed to at least work the keeper when clean through first half and leave an outstretched trailing leg or get there a bit faster for the incident in the second. The one where he beat the defender for pace second half and then just kicked it out with his wrong foot might have been overlookable for a player up to speed and contributing, but felt incriminating for him as a player who is struggling.

As a midfield, I thought we did okay today and the main issue was our final ball being very poor. Getting in behind but then hitting a cut backs straight to a defender etc. Our key pass man is usually Bruno, and he wasn't on it today either.
