And we also know from the Man City tribunal that the PL required the Sela deal to be reduced before they accepted it.

I remember a rumour there was similar for the ASM deal, but can't remember where so it might have been Twitter ITK nonsense.

I’m still not sure about this summer. It was intimated last summer we’d be able to spend and we didn’t. Judging by Eddie’s previous comments on this it seems like it’s gonna’ be summer ‘26. We desperately need some renovation and sprucing up. A class coach has kept us pushing for Europe and in yet another cup final but without backing we’re gonna start to go stale and then backwards. I don’t blame PIF one bit though for this. It’s PSR and we all know it.

Also having  a top 5 striker itw is a big reason we are still in the running.

Think that’s good news. Still don’t understand the plan as to how we close the revenue gap. ‘More pressure on commercial team’ isn’t a plan.

Are you expecting detailed strategy to come out in the press?

Yeh.

To some degree it has. We will aggressively pursue commercial deals.  Also says there’s been a reluctance to Pursue the most lucrative market for us the APT type deals.

When a publicly listed company talks about plans for growth - it is fairly detailed. We aim to sell luxury goods in China. We’ll sell 100k more cars this year with aggressive marketing and promotion.  Even the vague ones say we will get efficiency gains through automation and AI!!!!!1.  But it’s something.

NUFC isn’t publicly listed for one. They have no shareholders to impress, so there’s nothing to be gained by them presenting a detailed strategy on how they plan to grow commercial revenue. Quite the contrary in fact.

PIF are about as good owners as we could have at this current time, politics aside. Just ask Froggy if you doubt it.

All the restrictions are being placed by the PL, even different owners would make no difference.

Its hindsight and what ifs, but I wondered what would have happened had the new owners been American Companies/Business people, and not a state/country and overtly 'the richest owners in the world'.

Would the rules changes have been as quick or as sweeping?

I mean, not criticising PIF at all, but there was clearly a fear of 'another Man City' with our oil rich owners.

PSR is designed in such a way that the only way to break the cartel stranglehold is to pump in the sort of money which breaks their success monopoly, and only mega rich owners who don't care about loss/profit would be able to do that. Americans/Businesses are looking to make money generally, for them I would think pumping in billions to compete with the top clubs would be too much of a risk. Far easier ways to make money, and I assume that's why no serious bidders came in, other than the ones who were going to fleece us Ashley style.

Detailed strategy is doing heavy lifting.

There are only so many things that can be done to lift a clubs revenue. Maximise existing channels or do something innovative/use levers Barcelona style. Or the rules change.

A point people in the know made after the takeover was that PIF would often set ambitious targets but not have a realistic plan to achieve those targets.

With that in mind - pressure on commercial team and hesitancy to leverage APT agreements doesn’t fill me with hope.

You're totally right. Going to be interesting the next year or two as both Man U and Chelsea are starting to be sucked out of their own safe house

Commercial revenue = club merchandise, secondary uses of the stadium and sponsorships.

There is no ‘super secret strategy’.  You flog more gear, hoy on other stuff at your ground and get more commercial partners onboard, and that’s that.  To do it, you need a larger fanbase, a bigger and better stadium, and success on the pitch to persuade multiple bidders to become your official dildo suppliers.

Tale as old as time :)

Yes, and it's success on the pitch which drives the larger fanbase which leads to bigger and better stadiums. The cartel and their enforcers are well aware of that, hence the rule changes after our takeover.
