It’s much easier to get inflated fees selling players if you’re a top 6 team. Liverpool selling Brewster is miles different to say us selling him. Transfers are much less risky because of this. Chelsea can spend £20m on someone then sell him for the same amount without him even playing.

Totally this. Speaks to the inflated value you get for just being in one of the top spots.

DAN ASHWORTH has been formally announced as Newcastle United’s new Sporting Director after the club agreed compensation with Brighton and received approval from the Premier League.

The 51-year-old had been on gardening leave from Brighton since they announced his departure in February. Compensation has now been agreed between the clubs, meaning Brighton have “released him from his current contractual obligations with immediate effect.”

Because the compensation figure exceeded £1m, it requited approval from the Premier League. That ratification has now been received, TGG understands.

We did one for Jones when he came in so you'd hope the new owners would follow suit, though sporting director's that bit more significant for the club's future than assistant head coach was [emoji38]
