Hanshithispantz
That was from 4 days before Howe signed, and would have been around the time Emery knocked us back.

It's clearly sensationalist bollocks and in hindsight it's absolutely laughable to suggest they didn't have a clue what they were doing.
David Edgar
But it probably wasn't bollocks. And the tweet at no point says "they didn't have a clue." It says they fumbled loads of stuff in the early days - which we know they did as they pissed off Emery? Delaney can be an insufferable prat and report accurately. They aren't mutually exclusive. 80
It was a frankly pathetic campaign to bully them into making media narrative friendly moves. Hire Gerrard, bed in with some 'super agents', spaff huge amounts on fees and faded star power, and crash and burn for everyone's entertainment over the following two years. Us doing what we did pissed some of them off so much.

'In the early days' they'd just taken over their first football club, they will have asked stupid questions. Agents were 'astounded' by it? Howay man, it's sensationalism. I don't know why Emery didn't come but you don't botch your way to scouting and recruiting a manager like Howe, after Emery. Their shortlist was Howe and Emery, two seriously smart managers who between them have broken the near decade long ESL club stranglehold on the Champions League positions, made the Carabao Final, FA Cup semi final, reached a CL quarter final and won a trophy across the last three years. Hardly the work of people who didn’t know what they were doing. The idiot move would have been a Mancini, a Gerrard/Lampard or another high profile name, rather than genuine talent. I’d say the chaos came from agents and clubs desperate for some Saudi petrodollars, not the club.

Kimbo
I recall an assumption that Staveley didn’t know what she was doing and as she wasn’t surrounded by proper football men she would fuck it up, so every little thing was being jumped on. She made them look like dickheads in the end, not that they’ll admit it.
The College Dropout
Delan y wanted us to crash and fail. He was laying the groundwork for what most people thought the Saudis would do. Come in, sign a load of big names and get nowhere much like a city group did. But unlike City because of FFP not be able to keep spending our money at out of trouble. Always good-natured at pre-game press conferences. Unfailingly polite and controlled when interviewed, even after a bad performance. Never whines like, say, Arteta or Emery are prone to do. Never sullen or confrontational like Ange. Not even the occasional snark that you sometimes get from Pep or Silva. Gives intelligent level-headed analysis rather than the stupid huffy excuses that his predecessor used to come out with. The players clearly like him. Even seems to be a great dad and husband. He didn't only lead us to a fantastic season. He represents the club perfectly and is a manager to be proud of.
