El Prontonise
I'm sorry but Nick isn't anywhere near for that chance Gordon has first half as they are completely different players so the point about swapping one for the other is irrelevant. Wissa on the other hand...... It was the right front 3 as we had to press them early on before they took hold on possession. NobbySolano
I'll preface and say I think Eddie is the best manager we've had. Sue me. But today he got it wrong in so many ways and I think he, for once, lacked conviction and believe. That team selection was absolute shit. Be brave Eddie lad. Yeah it could have worked, if it wasn't because he started the same front 3 that didn't score a goal in the last 3-4 games together. What's the definition of insanity? Beyond the starting lineup, I think he also mismanaged the substitutions - more exactly the combination of players. This is the definition of looking ahead. You manage the game in front of you not the one after. He fell for what he probably constantly warns his players about. Don't look ahead. Try to win the game in front of you. He tried to not lose and nick one. It feels like it was a bit big for him again, which is surprising. I expected a lot better. He will be fine and hopefully learns from it and grows some balls. Lot of excuse making here. Wissa didn't get injured during warm up.

I'm not sure he fucked it all up. Hindsight is 20/20.
NobbySolano
It isn't all hindsight. As soon as the lineup came up you are going to wonder where the goal is coming from. If he had gotten lucky and Gordon had scored (which he wasn't, and hasn't, and won't as a CF) then he would have still made a mistake. Play the game in front of you at the premier competition. Worry about the game on the weekend after. You don't know what may have happened. Wolte puts that goal away and then Gordon instead of Barnes puts the other one in. You are up 2-0 and you can revert your formation and rest wolte anyway but you likely win the game. He went with the lineup that has not scored a goal all season... What's there to debate? This is not Howe out either. This is, do better lad. That was chicken shit stuff. Now if saving big Nick doesn't turn into a win at Bournemouth you sacrificed 2 games. I rather go down swinging and losing to Bournemouth of it meant actually going after Barcelona. And by the way, the press was not all that great. Barnes can't press as well as Gordon so Nick or Barnes are probably equal. Taking out Elanga who was crushing that right side was also shocking. Even if Murphy delivered, it doesn't make it right. Stottie
Blitz em early and bring on the good-with-the-ball forward later to hold onto a lead was a decent plan, and not that far off working. We didn't look overawed or out of our depth, and weren't beaten tactically, so Howe gets a pass on this. I was baffled by the Elanga sub, but Murph got an assist and Gordon scored, a goal the lad probably needed, so chalk one to Eddie. Lingering "what if?" is if Woltemade had been brought on five-ten minutes earlier before Barca score. It mightn't be but "subs on 60 minutes" does seem to be premeditated. I would also like to see more Elanga deliveries from corners.
wyn davies
Wouldn't be surprised if Howe picked the team he did, knowing that with it being the first game we could take the hit, in prep for Bournmouth, knowing we had a few CL games where we could recover from this loss. El Prontonise
A lot of the early pressure etc and a few of the chances we had was a direct result of having a front 3 like that. Gordon just has to hit that chance that he had, absolutely ridiculous he doesn't even make contact on it. We paid over the odds just so we'd have a proven striker this season ready to go, and he's been ruled out for 4-6weeks before even kicking a ball for us. It's a massive kick to the balls given our only other striker is a 23 year old with no experience in the Premier.
Lush Vlad
I get people not being happy with that front 3. I wouldn’t usually be and plenty weren’t beforehand. I didn’t mind it for last night. Made sense tactically and Howe’s managing Woltemade’s minutes as he’s our only striker for the foreseeable. But people seem to be speaking in absolutes. Like if Big Nick started. Then he would have scored, we would have had the same level of control early on from the press, the same threat in behind for their CB’s to worry about. You gain in one way and lose in another. Ultimately, we needed to be a lot closer to perfect than we were last night and we needed to make the most of our big moments. I’m not in a rush to blame Howe for the lineup or how we attacked it. It made sense but we couldn’t get that early goal. I do agree with most that Gordon is crap up top. But we don’t really have anyone else to fill in there as it stands. Osula has been even worse.
Interpolic
We could have quite easily gone in at HT 2-0 up if we'd taken our chances. That was the main difference vs the PSG fixture. Our approach was fine but it didn't work out, there doesn't always need to be this post-mortem based on razor thin outcomes where the judgement is the manager or players got it wrong. And lets face it both of those chances should have been taken. It is frustrating not to have a "proper" striker but there is no saying that Woltemade would have been on the end of the Gordon chance. Barca weren't at their best but you could say that was down to us, I am not too disheartened by that performance, felt we deserved something out of the game. Be great if we can turn Bournemouth over on Sunday, it will be a tough test, hope that Woltemade get's a start.
Ronaldo
One thing I will say, as much as I completely agree with not starting Osula, we’ve played 5 games this season and correct me if I’m wrong, we’ve failed to score a single goal without a striker on the pitch, yet we’ve started without one 4 times out of the 5. Cannot happen again now we’ve got Woltemade and hopefully Wissa soon.

JUICE690
Their goals came from dazed Schar & out of character hit from Rashford. People going on like we were hammered. They bossed midfield, where I thought they were simply a cut above us. A draw would have been fair on the night. We win with a bedded in Wissa though (ffs).
