The net investment is similar to previous windows. We don't drop £125 million on Woltemade and Wissa is we don't sell Isak. Are we talking serious questions? The College Dropout
Howe will be given another season regardless imo. But his influence on the transfers should wane (regardless). We should build a squad that Howe can work with but also a squad another top manager could work with. We shouldn’t have spent £130m on wingers of this profile. We should’ve signed more than 2 proper CMs in this time.
Ruddy Marveauxlous
Whether we like it or not, if we continue to struggle in the league, Howe will be under pressure. That's not opinion, it's a pretty self-evident fact. He will also be held accountable for the success of certain signings, Elanga for example, given he personally targeted him for several seasons. We as fans can question whether that is fair or not, but that's modern football.

Elanga well just have to keep and hope he comes good somehow. Barnes is fine as well for squad depth. We need to sign another more dynamic winger with strong goal output and another CM imo. Probably but another full back as well.
Iwantcurlyhair2
Before yesterday we had won 5 out of 6 with our 2 starting fullbacks injured, which are fundamental to our style and for the last 2 games we've been without Trippier as well. Our wingers have really suffered without Hall & Livramento. Nick Pope, who is now past it and needs to be dropped is third in the golden glove Wissa hasn't started so our style has had to change since the transfer window closed to accommodate a slower striker. Dan Burn before yesterday was arguably our player of the season Botman, coming back from a year out, has had one bad game Joe Harvey was manager when I was born and Eddie has surpassed everyone since. We are in the Carabao Cup qtr final. We are 8th in the Champions League Our League form will improve massively when Wissa, Lewis and Tino are back and we are only 6 points off CL places Everyone needs to calm down and just enjoy the ride. Our fan base are so infuriating after a defeat
Weezertron
I don’t envy the job on his hands. Aside from central defence and maybe Goalkeeper, the rest of the team are not functioning. That’s a fuck load of fixing needed.

I agree that this is the likely outcome, and with David Hopkinson in as CEO, Ross Wilson as Sporting Director and Suds developing our own data infrastructure, Howe may naturally have less of an influence in future transfer policy. Still have every hope Howe can turn our league form around, and for us to do good things in the cups and in the CL. Current signs are pointing towards another topsy turvy league season though. The positive thing is that many other sides are woefully inconsistent this season too, so we're not too far adrift of European places.

As much as we have things to look forward to there's plenty to worry about. Getting beat is 1 thing. Happens to all teams. Yesterday was another level of shite. Questions should definitely be asked. Erikse
2 hours ago, Ruddy Marveauxlous said: I've read suggestions that the problems stem from trying to move from a high-intensity counter attacking side to one that is more comfortable retaining possession and unlocking low-block defences. If that is the case, then why did we waste £100m on Jacob Ramsey and Anthony Elanga, neither of whom are well-suited to possession based sides as both lack the guile and technical capabilities of unlocking organised defences. These were players personally pursued by Howe, so of course there has to be accountability. If you mean my post, that's not what I meant. There are many things in between going full Klopp and going full Guardiola. Imo Howe is trying to not go all in on high pressing/intensity like we used to (intensity and high press is not the same as counter attacking). That's understandable given how many games we have to play. That doesn't mean that we are now trying to go all in on possession instead. Going all in on intensity has contributed a lot to our success under Howe, but that doesn't mean that we won't be able to be successful with a slightly different approach if we manage to find one that works for us. I think Howe still want us to be direct when attacking, hence why he is going for players like Elanga and Ramsey (and that's coming from someone who isn't convinced about those signings yet). I expect us to atleast play with more intensity than the last game in the next few, as we really need to turn things around. Put Wissa in the team along with Hall and Livramento, and the picture might look a lot different. We are having a lot of bad luck with the players who we haven't been able to use for long stretches of the season. It's killing our season so far. Stottie
That was our worst performance and defeat of the season, not just the scoreline. We were better against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona, albeit all three were at home. I thought before the game that our only big individual errors had been the Gordon sending off and the Pope kickout against Arsenal. We at least doubled that yesterday. I don't quite understand why we were so off the pace, but don't see it as particularly systemic or representative of how we've played this year. Just a very bad day at the office, especially for the lads on the left side.

Sibierski
This thread going to be proper messy if we spend £250m over January / Summer 2026, and start slow again in league Be people on one side that Howe is untouchable for what he’s done, then people on other side asking after £400m+ spent in 12 months, maybe the same issues shouldn’t be arising, with no middle ground allowed.
