As he’s proven over and over and over again, he’s the best manager we’ve had in the premier league era, and overreacting to every bad performance just seems completely pointless to me.

What you're saying is fair to an extent, but nobody is "overreacting to a bad performance" here. It was a tepid, gutless performance in a derby match against an average team with a set of fans who are already cocky as fuck about their over-performance this season.

It was the same performance that we've given too many times this season, and that anyone could see coming who has been watching us closely.

Worse, we set up in a way that made absolutely no sense given how they've played in every game this season. The counter attack wasn't there to be had and it just made us look fearful of them.

People are justified in being critical after today IMO.

If we end up burnt out and injury ravaged so be it, we need to get back to all out intensity is our identity football. The players we have clearly aren't capable of doing the slowing down and managing games thing, Eddie has tried to get us doing that for three seasons now and it just hasn't worked.

I'm still fully behind him but there is something no right behind the scenes, the team just looks disjointed and only playing at 80%.

I don't know what it is but he needs to fix it, I can't take much more of this inconsistency.

Not saying they'd come but I'd try again for Emery but also like Poche. The day we got took over when Bruce was still here I genuinely said to my dad if I wake up tomorrow and either Howe or Poche has the job id be delighted.

Emery ain't leaving Villa and Poche is overrated imo.  The only real upgrade for me would be someone like Luis Enrique but zero chance of that happening.

Love Howe and he still has my full support but today was an absolute stinker from him, from start to finish

He clearly took a risk by going with a sit back and try to hit them on the counter and it just failed, we were so toothless

Can't defend him at all today but will absolutely defend the idea that he should be gone or only has a few games left, that's absurd

Lose midweek and it’ll be very much squeaky bum time for him imo. Not that I want him gone, however sentiment in football only allows a certain amount of good will whether we like it or not.

I thought this is why we went and bought squad players so we can rotate. Turns out I was wrong

Also if it’s a transition season, then that’s only because we didn’t have a clue what we were doing in the summer window.

Alarm bells should have been going off as soon as Mitchell walked out because it was clear there was a total breakdown in transfer targets. We were told we couldn’t sign any duds because of psr but two of them don’t look up to it, we fannied on chasing Trafford only to not get him and now the goalkeeper situation is a concern.

This is another factor in the Eddie criticism, he got full control, which is never a good idea. We went after players that the cartel were circling over and were left going down the list.

I voted no like. I wouldn't reassess that til we see out CL and Carabao. Why?

I'm resigned to the idea that we're likely to finish mid-table, thus success this year hinges on other competitions (for me).

If by Jan/Feb we're out of both and our league form hasn't improved dramatically, I think then and only then I'd have to think about our future with Eddie.

For now, hope he turns it around and we can gain some much needed momentum and confidence.

Gets the rest of the season for me easily.

The risk is you can talk about transitional seasons, but will Tino, Sandro etc buy that

No europe next season and both of them will be away

Probably lucky that this season is a WC year and there's usually a fairly big turn over of managers post tournament so we may have options.

FWIW i think he would take the England job if offered again, his stock can drop just as quick as it has risen (see Potter prior to Chelsea)

Tactically out done today by Le Bris for me.

I'm not sure either manager can claim a tactical victory. I thought Sunderland were rubbish as were we.

Cancelled each other out with our collective rubbishness other than a ridiculous own goal

I think the Isak situation may have divided the players. One thing I used to be proud of us we always got stuck in and gave it a go now we don’t even bother our holes in a derby. Howes tactics, transfers and even basic team selection has being fucking awful this season but he deserves till end of the season. Gave way too much respect to a very average Sunderland side

When people say ‘who could we get’ he’s clearly off the boil this season.

Hes been bodied by Keith Andrews, Reggie Le Bris and Nuno. I’m sure we can find someone who isn’t tuned out, a new voice, a new tactic.

It’s also like, shit I dunno but it’s not anyone’s fucking job here to make that call. We have a CEO and sporting director who surely know how to identify and interview a potential new manager.

Definitely not for sacking him. However he needs to get to the root of whatever malaise has set in with the squad and fast.

That wasn’t his NUFC of previous seasons. We were cowardly and ponderous - it looked like they’d been on ludes the way some of them were trundling about.

He also has the biggest questions to answer with his transfer business. There’s £100m of wasted money that makes the way that Spurs spent the Bale fee look measured.
