Ultimately I expect he’ll be given a lot of leeway for this season and rightfully so given all he’s done as manager and some of the shite he’s had to deal with given how the club has operated at boardroom level in his time here.

By all accounts he has a great relationship with Ross Wilson so I don’t see there being much of a threat of him being forced out in a bad period, whereas he might have been if Mitchell was still here.

I must say that my confidence in his ability to one day take us to the next level and be a team that challenges for the title is pretty low. There’s very little to suggest he knows how to set up a team to effectively control the ball and take the game to weaker opposition. It’s all just very poor and you can see teams are very comfortable now just giving us the ball because we can’t do anything with it.

That’s all very far down the road though and I think he’s earned the right to a bad patch or two and to see what he can do working alongside a recruitment team that seem to be on the same page as him. Still in with a shout in three cup competitions and the league looks incredibly tight where I don’t see us falling too far off the European spots. Get some quality additions in January and the season can still be a good one.

I wouldn’t be upset at selling any of the current squad.

I think I’d be sad to see Bruno, Hall and Sandro disappear. I’d drive Gordon to his next move if we got £60m for him.

My point being is it's absurd to go on full criticism mode of people being rightly pissed off. There have been some colossal overreactions over the last couple of years, and many totally unwarranted. But not today. That was fucking abysmal.

I didn't mean you btw :mancini:

I’m not advocating for Glasner nor for getting rid of Howe, but Palace and Newcastle are very different clubs with very different budgets and expectations

His win % at Palace is higher than at Frankfurt and Wolfsberg. He's done very well at Palace, but he's without question a 'grass is always greener' alternative imo.

I don’t think it’d serve any manager to be airdropped into this club midseason. We’re also not in a position of needing to make an immediate change.

Hypothetically, it might be better if there were to be a change that anyone coming in could work with the players and then decide on who is good enough to stay or who needs to be sold.

Hard to do that based on them running about in pre season getting fitness.

As much as I'll defend Howe to the hilt, you are basically Baghdad Bob like Shadow Puppets. Even mild criticism is treated like it's extreme.

Because, to me, this place is pretty extreme most of the time. Extreme overreactions to wins. Extreme overreactions to defeats. Match day threads are an absolute embarrassment. And in my experience the opinions on here, generally, thankfully, don’t match up to the general match going public opinion.

I find myself having to provide some balance else we’d be staring at page after page of absolute drivel.

Have you been watching this season never mind those cowardly tactics today [emoji38] The five year plan is based off getting top level European football every season. That's not going to happen this year. A defeat or two in the league could put us lower bottom half also. He gets beat next week against Chelsea and I would not be at all surprised if the club pull the plug.

Agreed - I think he’s an excellent manager, tbf - though I also think Howe is an excellent manager.

Pretty bad performance, some odd selections and team set up, plus in game sub management wasn't good. Still no way I want Howe gone after a loss to these.

I thought we'd be better though and that's what stings. Need to rock up at the home game.

Well, the same doesn't apply because I'm not insulting you for your opinion, and I'd imagine admins of other forums (possibly even this one) would've just fucked you off for that, but I'm trying to be reasonable since emotions are high.

If you disagree with what I said, consider giving a nuanced response back.

It was nuanced albeit sarcastic. He is our second best performing manager in the PL era. We’re on about the same points per game this calendar year as previous years, despite the load and having to re-adjust striker wise. We’ve had two cup finals, two CL qualifications, and you’re thinking he should go? You can think that if you like, just like I can think that you should give your head a shake and/or grow a pair.
And know you’re playing the I should ban you card?  If that’s not abuse of ‘power’ I don’t know what is.

Mate, while I appreciate your balance, we don't need it after raising the white flag at the stadium of shite.

It was the lack of press again for me. Poor all round and fucking devastating to listen to the shite patter that's in front of me!

It's like we been told to play stoically like all the best teams in the world do. You know, play the game, not the occasion and rely on pure footballing ability.

Problem with that is we don't have the players good enough to do that. The wingers in particular have been atrocious this season. We were at our best under Howe when we putting massive shifts in. Longstaff was running 12km a match or something a few seasons ago and even he looked decent.

That's not sustainable with Europe and the extra games but that's where we could have really done with nailing the recruitment in the summer so we could rotate with better players.

The thing that concerned me back in the summer was we wanted Delap, Ekitike, Pedro, Sesko and we've ended up with Woltemade. All different types of strikers so it's just like we're making do and I'm not sure Howe knows how to get these players to gel.

It's all a rudderless mess.

I'm not pinning our hopes on one player, but he might make a difference. I don't see who is out there at the moment who we could bring in anyway, and why would we sack Howe when we still have quite a lot to play for this season?

I'm not sure we can change it. Howe has been given the keys to the castle and made it his home. The change would be monumental, and for it to be a success would require a lot of luck as well as planning. I'm not sure we have either of that at the club atm. The biggest issue for me is the last window has set us back years, and that is down to the manager. They are 100% his signings, and he can't do anything with them. Willock's replacement is Willock. Sums up the waste of money and hole we're in. HE needs to get something out of them, and quick. But he's shown nothing to suggest he's capable of it, if anything, they get worse.

We will lose Tonali & Tino in the summer regardless. Club won't allow another Isak situation and will move them on quickly when they make it known they want to leave. But we're stuck with the over paid for dross which is now stinking up the squad. Years ago it was cheap shite on high wages. Now our mistakes just look to be more expensive, in a time where the PL & clubs have joined forcers to make sure we're not allowed any mis steps.

Not really. The manager clearly favours pace, height and strength over being able to kick a ball. It's taken us to some great places but is now coming unstuck and looks woefully short without a plan B.

Howe is clearly a smart manger, watching our games he must see thats a huge problem is what I meant.
