KK wasn’t immune either tbf.  I don’t understand vitriol being poured on Howe, the man deserves respect, but the performances so far this season wouldn’t have been readily accepted at any time over the last few decades let alone post-takeover.

KK and Howe are both NUFC legends - I wouldn’t worry about how either are viewed elsewhere.

TBH I've had like 10 pints so don't recall if I drew in this or others. But you're absolutely right and what I am trying to say is not anything other than that.

My point is more towards the fact that Howe has gone beyond what any manager had for 69 years and deserves more respect than that which he is receiving.

We can talk about the takeover but we made a world record signing with Shearer under Keegan. We've merely joined the race under Howe thanks to PSR.

For context that's like us spending £140million on one player...

In general if your club didn't win it no one is going to give a shit or remember who won the cups, Carabou cup especially. I dont even remember it year to year sometimes lol.  Thats why we have the history books and its in writing!

Media coverage has changed alot of things and what will dictate peoples opinions in the future. As time goes on and the pundits age out, the entertainers are going to slowly get lost to time. The archive footage however might keep it a little alive.

In general no one outside of Newcastle cares about Newcastle unless it directly effects them or in terms of the entertainers I would say outside of those that experienced it at the time, its relevance will slip away every year.

So many different variables to compare Keegan and Howe's impact. The game is so different, the competition up at the top is different. Only thing that will ever really count to the majority looking back is the success in terms of trophies.

Thought you were fond of context.

I am but I’m not going to lie I hadn’t read the  thread but regardless at this stage I’m not going to be taking any crack that is having a pop at Howe or KK regardless about what they have or have not achieved in the grand scheme of things in the opinions of us or whoever and suspect we’re debating slightly different things.

Sometimes when a person is in a bad form, or crisis, or whatsoever, he would simply do everything wrong, until it reach the reset point. This all happened to us, may be at school, in a relationship, at work, within a family, etc

I would say KK was and should be remembered for his good rather than his bad during the final few months. And probably this would apply to Howe as well, unfortunately.

Certainly some people doesn’t deserve this treatment like Pardew. But KK and Howe are in the same category to me.

and yes sometimes it really need a change, for every party’s good.

This made me feel sad. I hope he manages to turn it around but unfortunately I think our striker situation will be too much to overcome.

Fuck sake.

It's been ringing in my ear for months, @Ronaldo Described us as "flat track bullies" a couple of years ago to everyone's derision (myself included) but it's hard to disagree with that assessment looking back.

We look so hopeless when we have to play actual football.

We won a trophy for once, which was generational.

Howe deserves a statue for that alone.

But as lovely as he is, we're just a bit shit. I don't want a gung ho balls to the wall pure energy team. I want us to have class, keep possession, dominate with patience and technique.

It feels like we've run out of steam and that's perfectly fine, but just play different tactics and train the players to do so.

The players look exhausted and don't really know what to do.

I've just read through the last 10 or so pages. Some of our fans are absolute weapons, resorting to Mourinho gifs when discussing Howe's performance this season is very strange.

Being the first to gloat that I SAID THIS MONTHS AGO YOU SEE I CLEARLY KNOW MORE

Proper weird behavior when we're all essentially fans of the club and are wanting the best for both club and manager

Couldn't agree more. What's happening is gut wrenching. Absolutely nothing to take pleasure in.

And Mourinho FFS

Absolutely desperate for him to turn this round. How anyone can watch his post match presser and not feel the same is mental. Also hope he’s okay, he looks absolutely exhausted.

How confident are you that he will?

I've given up hope that he will turn around this season basically.

Ordered a new dose of optimism set to arrive before the start of next season.

Honestly, not so much. I can’t see how this turns around tbh, at least not this season. You ?

Not seeing it either I'm afraid. I've been looking for green shoots at season but I just don't see them

We look absolutely hopeless in possession. I was watching yesterday asking myself who's the player we have who'd we want to isolate one Vs one? And my answer was Lewis Hall our left back...

Aye, I’ll be honest I feel it may unravel pretty quickly from here given the next run of games. Just hope he can turn this round.

It would be almost spiteful to do anything before the summer honestly.

We've had poor runs under Howe in the past and once he gets a spell on the training pitch he sorts it out.

Unfortunately our next 4 games are away from home, we still play a game every 4 days for the foreseeable and our next break will be the international break when most of our players leave.

We are not set up to play in Europe and wont make it there next season, which will give them the excuse that we can't spend as much as we want cos we dont have Champions League money.

If they were determined to make a change then surely there's no reason at all to sack him now, unless the person they had in mind was available right now.

Doubt their even thinking like that, hopefully with a settled back room staff and some good Summer in the transfer market they won’t need too.

I'm just not confident Howe won’t want too much say in how we scout.

I hate this guy. Rage baiting fans at a time like this is low. Add in that it was him asking Howe if he’d step down at the end of the season fuelling this nonsense.

I’m sure he’s petty enough to be reading this forum and if you are you’re an absolute prick and know what you’re doing.

Ok. Eddie is now a legend plain and simple. He's achieved more with us than any other manager in our lifetime. However this is not an ultimate free pass. We've had a season of dross football, losing more points from winning positions than anyone, recovering less than anyone. Yes people can point to fatigue etc etc, but as always as a fan base we are being too sentimental. We've had a great few years based on every new player basically being a hit, but for whatever reason our PL proven signings now "need time to adapt". No happy clappers. You buy proven PL experience so you dont have to adapt. We could have got three young hungry players from abroad that would have delivered more than Wissa. Woltemade is turning in to Tomasson MK II, Elanga f* knows just seems to have forgotten how to play football, and Ramsey just looks and plays like Willock.

Our strength was fast, direct, in your face, and s***housing through matches we shouldn't have won. The team that did this has aged and isn't capable of it anymore. Even if this is transition to a passing style it doesnt work with that philosophy. Yes our passing and possession might look good on paper, but worthless after 20 passes to get into the opponents final third just to send it back to defence or keeper which happens more often than not. Who among us isn't irritated by getting a free kick outside an opponents box just for it to be back with Pope in 10 seconds?

Some people whinge we dont get time on the training pitch...bull. These players are supposed to be professionals, and even I got better at passing to a team mate with an hours doss about once a week

If we want to be a passing team, work on passing. The number of simple passes that land to opposition is criminal. And as for "lessons learned"?? Sounds about as credible as a politician who's been caught associating with a criminal for financial gain.

I can't stand Edwards but there's a kernel of truth in part of what he's said there. Some of our fans have ragebaited themselves when it comes to Howe imo and I've watched it happen and been exasperated by it in real time.

We'll never ever be successful if every single setback is widely perceived as a failing of the manager. Thankfully it still seems that that view is only held by a noisy minority.
