Wor Mandy was the sliding doors moment for sure, we miss that buffer with a genuine connection to every level of the club. Worth her weight in gold and sorely missed.

Absolutely bang on the money that

She was the beating heart of the squad

Nearly all those targets were long shots, especially when clubs who could offer money money on wages came in. Total misjudgement.

Hmm maybe, I think a few of them were quite close to coming here mind. Even so, targeting worse players isn't necessarily a good plan either.

I know in hindsight we were wrong, but I'm not surprised that we thought after a great season, getting the CL and a trophy, we would be very attractive to signings. I can see why we aimed quite high.

Not only have we played one of, if not the most games in Europe, already at 45 with (hopefully) plenty more to come, but this is worth thinking about too:

It all adds to the fatigue.

I don't think we look particularly tired. Just players who have been great for us declining rapidly now and new signings not hitting the ground running other than probably Thiaw.

They could be mentally tired.

They fly on aeroplanes everywhere in luxury.  This type of stat is very misleading.

Or just shite.

Yeah. Literally played more games than any other team on the entire continent this season but mental and physical fatigue ain't got nothing to do with it. They're just shite.

That's why football teams have squads. Unfortunately, and I know it won't be very popular, we spunked a load of cash on absolute shite in the summer.

Happy to be proven otherwise.

We’re desperate for a good summer. Signings early, no drama. Short travel pre season, settled and calm

Ha!

Getting our business done early like we wanted to and did last summer hey!

Oh wait a min...

Can’t remember which position she played in last year’s Cup Final.

I dunno mate, constant travel, luxury or not is tiring, it's mentally tiring, its not an excuse in itself but it adds to a bigger picture, definitely.

He spelled it out in his post-match interview on Prime: he thought it was crucial to win the game in order to reignite the home form. It might have worked out had his goalie not provided an assist to Everton's CF from four yards out today.

And we had two deflected goals.

We didn't deserve anything today. Whatever the plan was, it didn't work.

In general I don't think too many games can be used as an excuse for the poor displays we have seen in the PL. It's his job to build and manage the squad to last throughout the season. If he wanted to go all in in all of the cups, he should have built a bigger squad, we had the money.

I do think there's something in this, we built our success on being up for it more than the opposition week in week out and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. At some point that's got to be hard to sustain. I also think we need to try and find a way to get that back rather than just accepting people are mentally tired so we're not going to be very good anymore.

Well we signed six players in the summer, leaving us with two goalkeepers, four full-backs, four centre-backs (five before Lascelles went), six centre-mids, four wingers and three centre-forwards. Where's the gap there, numbers-wise?

Not even sure how much it is his job to build the squad anyway. It was just something he was thrown into at the start of last summer.

It's really bugging me how many people either don't see this or chose to ignore it.

That’s only one normal week after 40+ games of madness though.

Yeah but it’s just an odd time to drop that after today’s result. We should have been raring to go but we were disjointed as usual when we aren’t up against a top side

Just looking at the numbers I though we were short atleast one fullback and a CM (don't count Willock as a cm).

But it's not just a number thing is it though.

We have way too many old and injured prone players. Instead of moving them out we brought a new one in (Ramsey).

Couldn’t have started this run of home games worse. I honestly have no idea where you start fixing this team, the defence is probably becoming the biggest issue and our inability to keep a clean sheet is killing us.

I think he looks out of ideas and will be interesting to see if he has the appetite for a complete rebuild in the summer.

The likes of Pope, Trippier, Willock and Burn need replacing, that’s before we even consider how to rectify the Wissa and Elanga mistakes.

I couldn’t give a fuck about City and Barcelona, this team is winning nothing this season, but similar displays and results against Man U and the mackems will raise further questions about his future.

The league position is unacceptable and if this level of performance carries on we’ll be looking over our shoulder shortly.
