Any of the three competitions would be good for different reasons. Europa and Conference are both winnable, offering us a European trophy and the guarantee of European football again the following season. Conference would also give us good opportunity to rotate, reducing the load on the team.

No European football and we’ll see our star players want to move on as well as the financial consequences we’d suffer for multiple years, I’d consider that quite disastrous tbh.

What would be disastrous enough for another name change? CL semis? 5th?

Apologies for invoking the "I" word on such a happy day but I reckon we'd comfortably be 3rd if Isak (or his replacement) was fit and firing this season. A 15-20 goal striker would definitely have gained us 10-12 points so far.

Bruno - 9

Woltemate - 7

Gordon - 5

Barnes - 5

We're lucky Bruno has stepped up like the captain he is.

Could say the same about our RW position.

The irony of all irony’s of course is that I’m absolutely delighted, having a great evening and all of the “positive posters” are falling over themselves to be negative about other supporters online.

Have a night off lads.

I thought a big part of our win was we didn't chase the game too much for a change. We were prepared to sit deep when we didn't have the ball, and also prepared to pass the ball around and keep possession when there wasn't an obvious ball on.

We still looked to get in behind when the opportunity presented itself, but we weren't rushing it. It worked really well for us considering the team we put out.

So we’re going to sell good players who will want to move on, not buy replacements as we cannot afford to and do not have the extra games to require them and then have a weaker squad and be outside of Europe. Sounds pretty disastrous to me.

Nah man, you're catastrophising and I didn't say any of that.

Isak left last summer, we might lose a big name or two this summer regardless of whether we qualify for Europe.

You're saying we might bring in £26m from the Europa, plus additional gate revenue so let's say another £40m total. Best case scenario.

It probably means we need to sign an additional one or two players just for the extra European games which will probably cost more than £40m.

Whereas if we don't qualify for Europe we can build the squad without those extra two players. Hence why it's hardly disastrous if we can attack the domestic competitions with a slightly smaller squad, like we did last season.

Well within our rights to question statements like "no Europe would be disastrous" when it doesn't really add up whatsoever like.

You are constantly buzzing around like flies on a turd with your I told you so attitude when we aren’t doing well, so it’s not surprising.

Disastrous: “extremely bad or unsuccessful”, not getting into Europe would be an unsuccessful season based on our pre-season ambitions.

It would be extremely bad also due to a higher probability of star players becoming unsettled, £40m less revenue which will impact us for multiple seasons, the lower quality players we are able to attract and the impact it would have on our commercial opportunities, restricting growth.

There is also no reason why we couldn’t attack both domestic cups whilst in either the Europa or Conference League. It also gives Howe a platform to hopefully further learn how to impact a European campaign schedule.

It would set back a team who have the intentions to grow year on year, not sure how anyone can dress that up any way other than being an extremely bad and unsuccessful outcome.

Fuck all to do with positive or negative. More to do with respect for a fantastic coach who has achieved an awful lot for the club and represents us all with total dignity and authenticity.

It’s really, really obvious what your intentions are with the EL disaster argument BTW.

Listen man I know you're desperate to prepare a stick to beat Howe with later but I'm never going to budge and say missing out on Europe is disastrous. I've set out why. The extra revenue is no use if we're spending more than that on players for it. I still want to qualify, obviously.

Our par is 8th wage-wise, to remind you  we've consistently outperformed that. One season around par, with all we've had to deal with, is not disastrous.

Howe needs to learn how to manage 2 games a week so getting into the Europa or the Conference would probably be hugely beneficial for him and therefore us.

The first game of the week being against a team we can't pronounce would be better than Barcelona etc in terms of walking before we can run.

If you’re going to tell me that I’ve got particular intentions and sit on a high horse about it, at least use the correct ‘your’.

Feel free to let me know what those intentions are, other than wanting my football club to be as successful as possible in line with their own stated ambitions.

Yes. I sit up every night thinking of completely out there ambitions (such as meeting our own targets) that I can use in 3 months time to criticise Howe for. Give over man.

Spot on. Someone mentioned earlier in the season that one of our weaknesses is that we're often always either attacking or defending, and rarely just pass it about patiently or sit in.

When we move the ball about quickly without necessarily always looking for the final pass or the pass before the final pass we look really dangerous, it also means we have fewer gaping gaps if we do lose it.

The Champions League didn’t stop Isak from doing what he did. The other competitions aren’t going to have an impact on what happens with Tonali or Tino.

Regularly qualifying for Europe should be a goal, but suffering for multiple years is again vastly overstated.
