Last season after the dust settled after the cup win if someone told you that next season people would be baying for blood after a below par season where:

- we reached the semi final of the league cup

- we made the last 16 of the CL

- we were 6 points off 6th (a generous way to look at it I know but shows the strength of the league this year)

You'd think people were mad surely? The man saved the team from relegation, rebuilt us into challenging for the CL spaces, won us our first major trophy in years, and 12 months after said trophy win people want him gone.

I understand there are issues and the squad needs a bit of a refresh but Howe has more than shown his credentials for this task.

If people said in the spring of 1969 that Paul McCartney would go from writing Yesterday in 65, then Let It Be in early 69, to writing Maxwell's Silver Hammer in summer 69 and that piece of shit novelty song was his path towards eventually writing and recording an even bigger piece of shit novelty song like the Frog Chorus then you'd think people were mad.

He hasn't shown he has the credentials to re-motivate a group of players who are clearly not engaged.
He hasn't shown his credentials to adapt to our system being found out.
He hasn't shown his credentials to freshen things up when they go stale.
He hasn't shown his credentials to improve his in-game management.
He hasn't shown his credentials to effectively manage a dual front campaign.

He has shown his credentials to save us from relegation, compete above our level playing plan A for the first 3 seasons, and be competitive in the cups. Every manager has his strengths and his weaknesses. Until this season we had only seen Eddie's strengths. This season we have seen his weaknesses and limitations, but he has openly admitted that he is not prepared to work on his weaknesses - same system, likely the same coaches, same ideas going forward. Exactly the same way it played out at Bournemouth.

You're right, if 12 months ago someone would have said this would be the situation no one would have believed you. But the reality is that this is the situation. And the majority of people are not even referencing the results when they say we should move on from him, they're referencing the performances, the same broken record, the appalling in-game management and the fact he will not deviate from his plan A only approach, despite plan A no longer working. If the fact he has essentially openly said 'more of plan A' next season doesn't worry you, I don't know what will.

If we had seen 3 seasons of tactical flexibility, changing games with clever in-game management and a willingness to learn, evolve and adapt, i'd be with you, i think we all would. But we haven't and probably won't, which is where this feeling of needing to move on is coming from.

Just seems such a negative take for the manager who saved us from relegation, got us to the CL twice, and delivered a major trophy. You'd think you were talking about Bruce or something there.

There's more nuance to "more plan A" than you present there but even if Howe said "more Plan A next season, but better" then I'd trust him.

You okay? You've been talking about frog chorus for two days? I'm here to talk if you want to.

But I mean, Howe is arguably our best ever manager and has been the most important individual in the recent history of the club. It doesn’t mean we were wrong to keep Howe and replace Mitchell.

We were right to back Howe, but that doesn't mean Mitchell was wrong either. Howe has been a good manager, but our transfer policy was always going to catch up with us sooner or later. I think we have recognised that now hence talk of a change in direction.

Yep fair enough, I just think some people seem to think Howe designed our previous approach to transfers or something. When really it was the result of a takeover which happened and a club running on a skeleton staff at executive level. Especially after Staveley left, and even when she was here TBH.

If he said more plan A but better I would be terrified.

But what about Ebony and Ivory and Someone's knocking at the door, I don't think anyone can deny they're classics

Win or lose, sink or swim. One thing is certain, Howe never gives in

Suggesting a title challenge next season is almost as mad as the lad who was suggesting we were gonna win 6 or 7 of our final games (before Palace).

We’ll be fine with no Europe and challenge for the European spots but then we will probably have another down year in 27/28.

Stuart Pearce suggested a title challenge this season

are you saying he’s mad?

because if you say that about a man like Stuart Pearce…

Whilst I admire and embrace the sentiment of the lyrics in Ebony & Ivory, it's an awful piece of music.

And Let 'Em In aka Someone's Knocking At The Door is best known for being the jingle for the Postcode Lottery adverts, which says all you need to know about that.

If he does end up staying, I am really, really nervous about our transfer dealings this summer, like incredibly nervous.

Again, we now have a DOF and CEO and Howe has already suggested he is happy not calling all the shots, sure he wants to run the rule over any incomings which he ultimately has to work with but he is not some kind of control freak everyone makes him out to be. Howe or no Howe I don't think the transfer window will look much different.

I’m cautiously optimistic given the names that have been floated about already. Seems like we’re already looking more abroad, which makes sense with Wilson.

Our league performances have been getting worse month on month. Villa away we looked good just missing a decent forward. Home to Liverpool and Arsenal we were unlucky and on another day could have won both. Although even then I was worried about the late goals conceded. We've got progressively worse since then. That's what worries me about Howe being in charge next season, he can't stop this juggernaut of bad form. And please, nobody say give him 3-4 months and if its no better than sack him end of the year. That's the worst of both worlds.

(I've excluded cups as the players always seem up for those games, which in itself is worrying about our management).

"Quality of shots faced" ??? What sort of stat is that ?

I need to see the quality of shots faced vs the expected quality of shots faced vs the quality of expected shots faced, otherwise it’s meaningless.

Heard on a podcast that we've now lost the same number of home games in the league this season than we did in 2008-09 with 2 still to go.
