So you don't believe they had no one else in the club helping them with a manager shortlist? I can't see too newbies in football owner terms doing that on there tod. Particularly Xavi, Maresca and Poch. As I said earlier Iraola would be my choice if Howe goes, but being higher in the league doesn’t mean he’s better than him. Aye but you said that up until this point Howe has proven to be a better than all 4 of them and have failed to back up that statement with facts as 3 of them have won more honours as a manager and the other is above him in the league. I'd like you to tell me the metric that you're using to put him at the top of that list.
TRon
1 minute ago, r0cafella said: You might be right on that, but where was the intensity? It was just the usual meander, the football we produce is absolutely lifting. Want to play possession but we have no clue how to with a team full of runners. I don't think the players believe in it any more. We've been schooled a few times by the best passing sides in Europe, and even the poor ones can match us for physicality in the Premier. Displayname
Said a few months ago that he should get the next season regardless, but if we don't start to see big improvements now that we aren't playing twice a week I'm not sure anymore. If he leaves now he'd still be considered a legend. Don't think that would be the case if we waste more money and end up with another poor season. GOTONEW
When we discuss the cup win...it all gets put on Eddie for the credit. He had the multi-storey banner etc etc. He's the centre of the discussion. So it's equally as fair, when it collapses, he also gets to be the one held responsible. He gets questions asked of him. Welcome to football management. If he gets the Summer, and turns it around, there'll not be many happier than me. But for now...he's stagnated, and has ran out of game-changing ideas. I can take one mid-table season on the chin without being suicidal (for the most part). We start next season and after a window and 10 games or so if we’re still exactly the same then there’s no reason not to replace. I see your point about more dross though. It’s almost impressive how we spent so much to get worse. Proper Liverpool behaviour. When Howe first come in he had the same crap left over from no sellable assets would hate for a new manager to be lumbered with poor quality players that we can't shift. Wolfcastle
Up until this season 4th and 5th was an overachievement and 7th aboout right This season on its own merits he's done a very poor job. Shouldn't really be debated. Were well below even the lowest of expectations and deservedly so considering how we've played all season - as consistently boring as any bad season. Embelished with the same predictable pattern we've seen all season to the point its been practically a joke on here for months already (second-half, response to going ahead). Bournemouth fans talk of him hitting the wall after 5years there. That's surely where were at. Only question is what do we do about it.

andycap
I just think long term we will want to be a passing based team that can comfortably control matches and therefore control injuries and fatigue we are just delaying the inevitable keeping him here if he doesn't want to change tact. maresca plays possession football so he'd be on the shortlist for me. Absolutely no chance, and they're much more to blame. Your second sentence says it all about the crazy position you're putting forward. Howe should go, but you don't trust the club to replace him well, sounds like a mental proposition to me. Edited April 12 by Kid Icarus

I'd like you to tell me the metric that you're using to put him at the top of that list. Let’s straight away discount Iraola then yeah? By your logic that means every other manager above us currently is better. On to Maresca, bloke spent more than Howe and hasn’t won a major trophy. On to Poch, won the league with PSG with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. Howe would also walk the French league. Tbf not sure what Xavi has done. Find it weird you are so desperate to put Howes fantastic achievements down whilst ranking the others above him. Can’t be bothered to keep talking about it though as you clearly have your mind made up.

You think we can win the league and champions league under the current rules ? Forget getting 'to the very top' for a minute. This season, we've struggled to get results against the teams around us! Is that the current (financial) rules too?
