Club are looking to recruit cbs apparently still so guess they have similar thoughts, albeit apparently we are negotiating a new deal so who knows. Tiresias Posted December 2, 2025 Share Posted December 2, 2025 To clarify bit, it's kinda up to him, I'm all for new contract keeping him around, burn isn't getting any younger and botman could be the future (but the injuries are huge concern still). But if we're looking for new young CBs anyway is he in the plans? And if he wants to get into starting for holland does he want to be fighting for his place or does he want to go somewhere he will automatically start? Totally get the reservations about a bumper contract, though. There's no reason at all to reassess his level IMO, he's an elite CB. If he's asking for unreasonable wages etc, fair enough, but that's a different question to whether he's class at football. The Prophet Posted December 2, 2025 Share Posted December 2, 2025 I really like Botman. Reads the game better than any of our other CBs and his passing range is superb. He was one of the best CBs in the league in 22/23. He started the season really well, but feel he's getting a bit of OTT grief for two poor performances where the whole team was absolutely terrible. He's relatively young, he's not had a run of games to prove his worth due to injury and his country are blessed with quite a few CBs some of whom are playing for higher profile clubs. They do, or at least have had in recent years, a particularly strong pool of CBs compared to other positions. Part of the reason Huijsen chose to play for Spain ( even before he kicked on significantly last season). If Botman was a Dutch striker of equivalent quality he'd probably have 40+ caps at this point. That being said it remains a fair point. For me Botman is a talented player but his injury record just isn't good enough for me to ever have 100% confidence in him as a blue chip player the way other people do.
