Rafalove
Looks like French clubs are doing the “ don’t sell to Newcastle” thing premier league clubs were planning to do
gbandit
Can’t really do much brinkmanship here either as we need players in now. I reckon we’d be able to force moves through on deadline day but it might be pushing it too late then
toontownman
Wow. Next. So there were positive talks? Just didn't talk about price, structure of the deal or that he wasn't available now. Does positive mean they answered the phone and indicated they would talk to us? TheGuv
That’s a ridiculous set of demands. If it was on purpose, to keep him, then well done to them in all honesty. If it’s their idea of them trying to squeeze more out of us to get him to sign in January? It’s dreadful negotiating. As we’ll now just walk away. Dr Jinx
Take out the sell on fee and whatever bonus, but yes loan him back for the remainder of the season. We need to think about the here and now but also what's next. If this kid is as good as they say he can join in the summer and be prepared for it. khay
Might need extra 10 millions on bids in the coming week to get some deals over the line. Need to go find some more release clauses in Spain. French teams quite rightly holding out for more.

Yorkie
This has got 'agent sparking bidding war' all over it. Hope we don't regret wasting our time going after targets that were never actually attainable at this point in time. We just need a few competent Premier League players. It's a big club deal the likes of Chelsea probably do all the time. Just because we are shit now, doesn't mean we shouldn't buy for the future. I agree, if we really rate him, find some way to get him signed.
Chris_R
There's nothing wrong with loan back clauses, but now would be suicide. Move on and work on other deals, maybe come back to this in the summer or whatever if we're still keen. Pointless now.
bobbydazzla
If Burnley or Norwich or Watford were looking to spend £30m on an unproven player that couldn't play for them this season we would be pissing in our knickers laughing at their stupidity. No point blowing our beans buying European kids for the future, when currently our trajectory means a future in the 2nd tier. We need people who can contribute right now, otherwise we're gannin doon. We wouldn't if they'd just been taken over and considered the richest club in the world though. If we're buying him to try and avoid relegation then, yeah, I get that. If we're buying him as we've recognised him as one of the most talented young prospects in Europe it's not really an issue is it. He'll go to Dortmund and we'll buy him in 3 years for £145m
