REIMS STRIKER HUGO EKITIKE AGREES MOVE TO NEWCASTLE

Quote

RMC Sport report this afternoon that Reims striker Hugo Ekitike has agreed in principle to join Newcastle this summer, with the two clubs already coming to an initial agreement.

An agreement was found for the 19-year-old’s transfer over a fee of €36m plus €10m in bonuses. Ekitike had turned down a move to the Premier League side this winter, and decided instead to see out his first season as a professional with his formative club.

With 10 goals this season, having missed out on several months due to injury in the second half of the year, the French youth international has been one of the breakout stars of the campaign.

The original source which everyone is basing this update on is RMC Sport. How reputable are they?

They are the gold standard of reporting!

I hope.

It’s looking like happening now in fairness. But again, I’ll stay reserved enough until I see pictures of him holding the shirt.

Massive risk this mind spending that much on someone so unproven, especially when our attacking players need such an upgrade. Fingers crossed he’s the real deal and hits the ground running, don’t see him having much time to settle in as such as we will need him to start pretty much straight away.

He's not going to be in the first team initially.

I think we'll bed him in, as we did Bruno, bringing him on for ASM/Wilson.

I was reading an article this morning (I think it was on the Athletic originally, then posted elsewhere) on how transfers work behind the scenes.

It was really interesting generally but the key part was basically that it's very rare for a deal (or at least basic terms) not to have been agreed with the player, via agents etc, before a deal with the selling club is agreed. There can still be hitches, minor issues to sort out and so on but it's not very often a club will go in with an offer without being pretty much sure that the player will accept the terms on offer.

Are you both expecting us to bring in a right winger and another striker along side this lad ?

Right winger and another midfielder apparently.

And so Ekitike will get minutes covering upfront and on the left initially.

Would you not be slightly concerned relying on Wilson being fit the whole season again ?
