Hugo Ekitike

Miggys First Goal

Recommended Posts

So far we've shown we won't have clubs take the piss on price (Sevilla), players take the piss on wages (Lingard), and agents take the piss on fees (Ekitike). We have though made great offers across the board and not slumping, so able to go head to head and win against the like of Milan.

Long may it continue.

Only real blip is Wood. Though he shouldn't have been than bad last season, he's better than that.

Unless your agent is hindering your career progession...........you know, the exact thing they're there to facilitate.

Right now, unless he gets a BIG move this summer (such as Bayern, Madrid, PSG or whomever) his agent runs the risk of killing his career before it gets out of the traps.

Say he stays at Reims, gets a bad injury early doors, struggles to regain form (not entirely unthinkable) then how much is he worth next summer?

Who's in for him? None of the above and probably, by then, nobody at our level either.

It's shit or bust this summer and, if it's not to be to us, then his agent better have a card up his sleeve otherwise he's going to look like a right incompetent cunt tbh.

He just turned 20 two weeks ago. It's not shit or bust for him. He's more as likely to get another 10-15 goals. He'll have just turned 21 - all the big clubs around Europe will be in for him with just 1 year left on his contract. The fee would remain the same for Reims but he would be in for a lot more money personally and for his agent too.

Another year at Reims is a good idea for footballing reasons too.

If we thought we could do better he wouldn't have been our number one target in January and again this summer, would he..?

Was he our number one target though? I think we see him more as a number one target for one for the future?

I can. If he’s that highly thought of then 25m plus add-ons seems a good deal. Low risk of losing money and a good chance you could almost double that in 3-4 years time; depends how prohibitive his agents demands are though, I suppose.

Yeah, it's a good deal, which is why it's a bit strange that there has been no news of bids from other clubs.

I think most of the other clubs that have an eye on him, probably want to see a bit more of him before going in for him. I think this is probably where we have an advantage, as we are going in a bit earlier than most clubs would.

If he's more intent on going to one of those other clubs instead, then he may well need to stay at Reims another year and show that same level again.

for me, the pictures of him and his agent are like two kids who grew up, one has talent, the other is a hanger on.    Look at how all the other footballers interact with their agent, none of this shit on Instagram.    Up to Hugo like,  but just looks off, the whole setup.

It is a tricky situation, have yet to check his profile, but does he share pictures of his agent regularly? if not, then it does really look bad when he did it a few days ago.

He only has 2 years left on his contract.

Other clubs probably willing for him to have another year at Reims, see how he develops. If he's good as they think - the fee next season is similar to what we are willing to pay now. They'll have a more proven player, ready to come in and compete for the first team. Any top team in for him now would likely loan him out for another season anyway. We are really risk the £30m now. Others are willing to wait.

Chances are that PSG were never interested in him anyway and it was a load of horseshit planted by his agent, which has hopefully backfired.  I don't know enough about the kid to be that emotionally invested in this deal and maybe he is worth all the ball ache, but the whole thing is a bit sour and becoming increasingly tedious.

I'm pretty sure Wood wasn't our number one target, and it's quite clear we were keen then and we are keen again now, so it seems indeed that he is our number one attacking target, just like Botman was our number one defensive target.

Lot of desperate Dans too.

Desperate for what? It's just a football transfer , if this is who Howe and Ashworth want as their first choice and they've done their due dilligence on him, then hopefully we can get him. There are reports he wants to come, Reims have accepted our offer, and that it's just his agent being arsey. Dunno why there's any need to go on like a rejected nice guy, especially when no one knows the full story.

The task to create a squad worthy of Europe while not being able to actually offer Europe yet is hard enough as it is without being thin-skinned when one of our top targets decides to play the waiting game to see if better offers come their way. I mean, we could settle for third or fourth choice straight away to settle the nerves of a few impatient fans, but since it's not even pre-season yet what exactly is to be gained by this? In a way I could understand settling for Wood in January with Wilson out injured and the club staring down the barrel of relegation, but it's only June and the club have already brought in (almost) three targets who will all slot in into the first team. Time to chill and let the pro's continue to do their job.

 Exactly the same mindset would have had us already onto our 3rd or 4th choice after Botman as well. There needs to be an acceptance that if you're going to be ambitious, you're going to be dealing with ambitious players, who by their nature will be looking as high as possible and that them being ambitious isn't some sort of reprehensible lack of loyalty towards your precious football club.

Not if he's a shit agent only looking out for himself

Tbf he looks like one of his mates who’s trying to have a stab at it. Usually the very very worst types of agent to deal with. See Demba Ba for more info.

That is not the same situation. Lille didn't want to sell Botman and that was the only issue standing in the way of that transfer. Ekitike has gone out of his way to avoid signing for us in two windows now when push came to shove.

Aye. Nobody is emotionally attached to the lad. Nobody has seen him play live.

But you don't know any of that.

If you'd have taken from the Botman transfer what you've taken from the Ekitike transfer, you'd also have been saying the same thing about him like 3 weeks ago about how he clearly wants to go to AC Milan and is waiting in the hope that they can match our offer.

Botman was holding up the transfer to sound out the Milan interest - it never materialised and Botman signed.

Hugo's agent is playing funny buggers. Assume wages and such are fine with Hugo

How could Botman hold up the transfer when we hadn't agreed a fee with Lille though.

Yeah this isn’t comparable to Botman at all. As the deal has progressed it was clear Lille moved the price multiple times. Once a fee and structure was accepted, Botman showed up in days.

With this kid, it’s clear the club agreed a fee and the player himself agreed personal terms in Jan; now it appears his agent is asking for above and beyond fees and Hugo is letting his agent do this. How does this show for him that he’s allowing a friend or hanger on hold up a career advancement for whatever the extra pay day is? Cleary we’re paying some agent fees but that hardly shows well on the player and who he keeps around his inner circle.

Remember when Rafa said “we’re not a stepping stone, we’re Newcastle United”?
