Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Recommended Posts

Not sure but I assume Wilson was injured when we signed him and we needed a striker as Saint-Maximim was playing up front at the time.  He provided structure to the team in a way that Maxi was unable to.  He did the job he was required to do although the lack of goals was disappointing.

We also had a remarkable win rate when he played.

I don’t think we actively tried to sell him but when Forest came in for him, he wanted to leave.

I don’t get why there has to be such a debate on ex-players all the time. Factually he was awful for us in front of goal - it’s not even debatable he was mostly useless. His work rate was great and tried hard for the team but frequently missed chances.

He’s done absolutely brilliantly since he left and he’s one of those ex-players I’m chuffed about whenever I see he’s scored again. He gave his all of us but it just didn’t work out.

Because we’re a fickle fanbase and a large percentage of our fans love slagging off our own players, either on here or at the match

Wood never clicked for us and as a result he got slagged off when playing here and has been used an example of an awful signing who we wasted money on and we should have known better than to bring him in

When in reality he’s a decent player who still knows how to score goals, it just didn’t work out for him here. Which will happen sometimes

There’s a difference between talking sensibly about somebody not playing well versus ripping someone to shreds and calling them worse than shite and a dogshit signing because they’re not playing well

Wood was a shite signing. Expensive and shite. The fact that we got a good fee for him and that he's doing well now doesn't change that.

He wasn't shite. He wasn't even expensive for a striker at 25m. Forest got a bargain at 17m or whatever.

So yes, it kind if does change it.

Wonder if Chelsea fans say the same about Mo Salah

It didn’t work out for Chris Wood here, shit happens

NB. I’m not suggesting Chris Wood is as good as Mo Salah, before anyone kicks off and tells me I’m on glue

Regardless of what side you are on regarding Wood, surely it shows an example of what we desperately need to do more of ? Getting maximum value when we sell a player, regardless of how well the do once they leave ?

He was what we needed at the time providing a focal point and holding up the ball when he had none of that. Assuming Wilson had stayed fit even part of the time (I know:yao:) you'd say we let him go at the right time too once Isak was fit and up to speed. It was a successful transfer for us both in and out.

Lad gave his all every match and the usual suspects were particularly cunty about him regardless (best fans in th' wuuurld). It's great to see him making them look so stupid tbh.

There's a general habit of calling players shite even at other clubs that really irks me.

There's so much that goes into getting the best out of certain players. Most need a setup that benefits them. The exceptional players find a way no matter what, but those are rare.

You watch how isolated Isak can be in our setup sometimes and you understand why Wood struggled. Isak has still been great for us anyway because of his greater ability and talent.

The thing Wood really struggled with was holding the ball up in general play, or dropping into space and linking play when needed, which is required in our 4-3-3 because there's often no one playing off the striker.

At forest they play someone in the number 10 position which takes a lot of that responsibility off him, as he can just stay high up the pitch. I think he also benefits from playing with two wide men that are more traditional in looking to beat their man and whip a ball into the box.

He's showing he's got really good goal scoring instincts if the right conditions are put in place for him.

I don't think he would have ever showed the same for us with the way our system works.

Re-writing history again.

Yeah, he's actually pretty poor at it.

Even at Burnley, Ashley Barnes always did the dirty work for him.

This is exactly it. No need for the 'atodaso' screams every other post.

Purple patch - won't last

His record while he was here is the anomaly, not the one he has now.

He's an established 1 in 3 Premier League striker and has been for years.

If you're not allowed to describe what you see with your own eyes then what's the point in the forum.

I think what’s annoying is how hyperbolic the criticism gets when someone doesn’t set the world alright here.

If you’d scouted Wood purely from comments on here you’d be convinced you were getting a league 2 player.

If people think he looked that bad then what's the issue? Roy Keane called Haaland a League 2 player...

At the time any suggestion that we could get more out of him, or that he was useful, had other attributes worth having etc were largely waved away with a general assertion of "nah, he's shite"

You'd think with our history of writing players off only for them then to come good, there'd be a bit more humility by the time we're onto writing off player 239, but at this point when the opportunity presents itself I mostly just enjoy being an annoying cunt and rubbing it in faces of people too cock sure of themselves to ever learn their lesson tbh.
