As boring as it is I think giving up that free kick isn't necessarily a bad thing. Always takes two minutes to set up everything and freekick goals are just so rare nowadays with the free jumping walls and massive Nick Pope in goal. Honestly rather give them that freekick than getting constant balls played into the box for those two minutes. Wouldn't be surprised if soon some team's analytics experts actually started to suggest hacking down people around the box in these situations. My only worry with him being captain was whether he'd go off the deep end by trying too hard, but he did very well to battle really hard without going to far. That's what I was going to mention also, when it got down to it he was able to go ten games or whatever without a yellow.
