Ritchie was quite expensive relative to the time and the fact we were in the Championship tbh. A good signing for what we needed and ended up being a great character to have around, but not what I'd describe as a value signing personally.

Ritchie, not a value signing?

Fuck me.

£12 million in 2016 is basically the equivalent of £25 million now. It was a pretty extravagant purchase for a newly relegated PL club.

And Matt Ritchie was only ever an OK PL player. A winger who scored 8 PL goals in 145 PL appearances.

Good signing for what we needed, but not a bargain IMO.

He was a bargain because he's worth 212m. So...that's that.

I really like him because of his attitude, his fighting spirit, and his heading ability. Unfortunately, his lack of basic speed will cost us a few points. There have already been several situations where a fast winger has outpaced him. Even his experience can't compensate for that.

He's playing out of position. He's been brilliant at CB.

I get all the reasons we will be a better footballing side with Hall / Livra at left back but it’s ok to accept and enjoy that our local boy puts in 7-8 / 10 nearly every match — if he’s not your cup of tea in general play he’s a collosus in box defending, corner and set piece defending, key big time interceptions or tackles, every aerial duel in defense or attack and keeps things moving.  Replace Elanga with Wissa or Gordon on the 2-3 headers won in second half and we have a player thru on goal. As all players you have to accept they aren’t perfect robots and it’s simple as fuck that Big Dan Burn is a fantastic all around player. Absolute bargain of the century.

He played well, but also people are overlooking his mistakes at the back and his tendancy to wander out of position.

What mistakes? When did he wander out of position?

Was clearly being asked to go up the pitch when we were launching from the back, so that he could knock on headers. Wasnt out of position at all

Wander out of position !?

Dear me. they're a bunch of the most coachable and coached players in the league

Dya think he just decided to pop up on the left wing on Ramsdales goal kicks for the craic?

Not yesterday against fulham brighton he gets caught wandering.

He doesnt. He follows instructions. Its like saying Schar went wandering against PSG. We have a very fluid set up, thats we dont get outnumbered very often while nominally playing a 3 man midfield.

He called out the cabbage so worth the money for that reason alone.

Seriously though, he was a leader during the championship season especially after our shaky start. We all know how difficult it can be to get out of that league and he played a huge part getting us back up and keeping us there.
