Facebook post showing off their new bridge to the stadium.

Scrolled down past about 10 comments (and associated replies) before I found one that wasn't about Newcastle United, the Isak saga, bridges over the Tyne etc.

It's just normal to them that we are their focal point and every conversation has to revolve around us- they don't see anything wrong with it. Bizarre.

See it also contains the usual obligatory comment from an Everton fan in peyce... "welcome back to where you belong".

What the fuck is so special about that bridge that it warrants that gushing FB post? There's nowt incredible about it.

whats incredible about it? its a bridge ffs [emoji38]

In all fairness, it’s about more than that. It basically intersects the two biggest regeneration projects in Sunderland, probably the only regeneration projects they have going on outside of a housing developer building on their old civic centre.

All in all it’s their equivalent of our Pilgrim street regeneration.

It’s the same for their new road bridge. You have no idea how much traffic it takes from the northern end, much of which was single lane from the Queen Alexandria bridge, past the SOL, and into Sunderland that way.

Incredible = they have time for an extra pint in a shit tip of a pub in their shit tip of a town centre before walking over to their shit tip of a steydeyum

Some good pubs in Sunderland. Town centre is a work in progress granted but Keel Square is going quite well since it’s been redeveloped as an example.

Yeah I don't mind the two new(ish) ones on the square, Keel Tavern and The Botanist I think? Fire Station is a decent venue and bar aswell

Yeah I don’t mind them either but being honest the poster I replied to probably got it spot on at least in regards to me. I prefer to have a pint in one of the shit tips…

It's a nice bridge tbh and good for regeneration of Sunderland

Just had a quick deek online. Looks nice and I like that they give the public the option to name it. Didn’t realise there was such a long history of keels (and keel man) on the wear as well as the Tyne. A couple of generations of my ancestors were watermen/keel man from Bird’s Nest Walker and further along in Byker, at Dent’s Hole (great old place names!).
Such a lot of similarities between the cities, particularly in their industrial origin. Shame that all that gets glossed over by petty perceived differences.
Always thought of keels as solely going downriver (and back obvs) transporting coal and stone etc from shallow  water to ships sitting in deeper water so wonder why Keel Crossing was chosen? (Presumably there was a ‘water taxi/ferry’ back in the day like between North and South Shields now and the many earlier ones pre Tyne Tunnel 🤷‍♂️

Had my first ever pint in the birds nest, cracking little pub back in the day.

The whole (quite small) area was called Bird’s Nest; presumably where pub got its name. Think there’s still a Bird’s Nest road and on opposite side (Felling Shore) a Nest Road, near Friar’s Goose Marina, where my Dad and uncle had a boat for years.
