Remember when Rafa got us promoted and they claimed we were a "yo-yo" club [emoji38]

my dad didn’t go last night because “He couldn’t be arsed”, to be fair he is 80 and wouldn’t get back home until close to midnight after a midweek game. He often adopts this approach.

He has had a season ticket for years.

I doubt there's 10,000 who have those particular circumstances though...

Aye I think they'll be more than happy with a quick cash grab then back down where they belong.

We seen how they went on when they drew us in the Cup, money signs lit up and they basically prostituted themselves out to us. Tripled their ticket prices compared to the last FA Cup game they'd played before us, and handed us their home end, plus accompanying Hospitality areas. Even decorated the place in black and white before the backlash.

Aye think 10k is a very conservative estimate as well BTW. Seen something last week where they were complaining about how shit their atmosphere is and were putting the blame on most of their fans being over 70 so maybe something in it though [emoji38]

If so, they are a No-Yo club.

I imagine that there is quite a drain of younger people from the city tbh - there's not many opportunities bar Nissan and the university is manly locals and overseas students (who leave once their courses / visas end) who don't have a connection with the club so wouldn't go if it was free (which it has been in the past / premier league opposition might change this). Without checking I'd imagine demographically Sunderland is top heavy on age as well as diversity compared to most UK cities.

They fkn wish they were.

To be a yo-yo club you have to get promoted once in a while.

TBF since they were first relegated in 1958 they've spent 35 seasons out of the top flight and 29 seasons in it, 11 relegations and 10 promotions.

They likely qualify as a yo-yo club, they just haven't bothered to yo back up for 8 years.

To be fair, he’s right, even Newcastle suffers in comparison to other major U.K. cities. It’s one of the reasons why the North East as a whole has the worst economy in the U.K. with real problems with wage inequality, and poverty amongst others.

Think they would follow a similar strategy to what Burnley and Ipswich have done. Spend all the money, but on the younger players where at worse you are getting money back/very good player in Championship, at best a big profit sale.

Best strategy for a newly promoted side in modern game IMO. Enough young talent in English game and enough finances to sign them from abroad too over established named sides in European leagues.

They love discussing percentages and treating them as fact.

Doesn't plastic mean you don't go to games?  I'm confused.

So from a mackem point of view:

Plastic fan means you turn up for home games when your side is playing at home.

Non Plastic fan means you don't bother turning up for home games when your side is playing at home because you can't be arsed.

Right, got it!
