I’ve said before clubs should have and use multiple logos like American sports teams do. I guess to some extent we’re doing this by using the retro badges again. We might still continue to use the current crest on some products I guess.

When this first came up I kind of shrugged. I like parts of both of the circular ones from

the 70s and 80s. 
 

But I got kind of a sinking feeling reading that. I absolutely hate this:

 

But it was created in a different era. Its intricate design doesn't always translate well in today's digital world. And it's difficult to reproduce it clearly and consistently.

 

As football and the world changes, so too must the symbol that unites us.

 

Fuck off. Put a shovel in the ground on the stadium or training ground before messing with the crest.

 Not opposed per se, but I think it would have been better to have one or more alternatives ready to put to a vote, and then have a second round of voting putting the existing crest against the preferred new one (alternative crest that won the first vote) explaining the benefits for the club of moving to the new one. I’m not sure what fan consultation is going to achieve without having any idea of what they’re thinking of in terms of alternatives. It could be great and it could be horrific.

Yeah let’s dispense with our badge, historical identity because some goon somewhere in a marketing department wants to “simplify and update”. If Ashley did this people would have hated it. It stinks

Whatever we get people will absolutely hate it at first. There’ll be a slow softening as we get used to it, it will be associated with our new era of success. Fans will proudly tattoo the crest on their bodies, flags will be transported across Europe as the standards of the Toon Army. It will become a much loved symbol of the club.

 

in 30 years time the club will tentatively suggest an update to ‘keep up with the times’ as the previous design belonged to a different era….
