The best individual player we have had in the last 10 years is easily Ben Arfa, but for me the best player was Demba Ba. A prime him in our team now and we’d be mid-table. Easily the best CF we’ve had since Shearer. IMO anyway.

The Shola thread has some stuff about having a go at local lads etc. Made me think, I wonder what our best side would like if only local players were selected. A kind of Yorkshire cricket flashback.

If we said living memory/for me about 35 years! then you'd probably have to have the following slotted into some kind of formation:

Beardsley, Waddle, Gascoigne, Shearer, Watson, Clark (L), Elliot, Howey, Venison, Thomson, Amoebi (Sh), Wharton, Taylor (S), Dummett, Carroll, Carr (K). Others which spring to mind: Colback, Bridges, Amoebi (Sa). Must be missing some.

Ramage, Huntingdon...

Him and Remy, similar levels but different styles of play imo.

Remy was more exciting, but Ba could score goals even on an off day and brought more to the table. Was less of a mercanry as well  :yao: :scared:

I remember when people on here were so nonchalant about him leaving just because Cisse arrived and strated bangining them in. :yao:

Cisse just hit probably the best purple patch I've ever seen in a player during that spell he had.  If you watch the goals he scored, not many were decent striker chances, just brilliant individual hits.

He came back after that summer and it was all gone. Not just his finishing, he'd gone from being quite strong to being incredibly weak, slow, awful first touch. Was like a different player in all the wrong ways.

Pards jammed him on the wing cause ba threatened to leave, destroying his confidence

 As great as he was, Ba's selfishness coupled with Pardew's useless essentially fucked a good thing. Not saying he would've continued being as outrageous as his first half season, but I'm confident he'd have looked nowhere near as bad if he wasn't shunted to the wing.

That strike against Chelsea with the outside of his boot.

The first goal in that match is always overlooked (understandably) but it was a fabulous effort in its own right.

Neesy's bang on like, that period straight after he joined was absurd.

Cisse’s scooped side-footed dink when he was off-balance at Swansea was absolutely unreal and is very under-rated!

Aye I lost the plot at that. Didn't think he could do anything better than that.

His finish vs Norwich was very good as well.  i just remember almost anything he attempted during that spell just came off, the form he was in he would had never wanted that season to finish.
