That alone deserved the sack! Paid 500k more for Des Hamilton than we got for Ginola Dalglish gets a lot of unjust defence rather than criticism, not just because in my opinion differs but with regards to Gullit too who never gets defended and inherited Dalglish's team not Keegan's, also bought a few good players amongst mostly bad ones, got us to a cup final with a harder run and in more impressive fashion than Dalglish, brought Harper through, played better (albeit not difficult to) football, turned Gary Speed around* and left us pretty much as he found us.....and I don't consider he was a good manager *Speed is cited as a plus for Dalglish but in truth he was a terrible signing whilst Dalglish was here to the point he was being booed by some fans At the time Dalglish left he arguably hadn't had a good signing, allowing for Hamman only playing twice, Solano not at all and the Speed scenario above. Dabizas was okay but not a noticeable improvement and Given had time on his side but wasn't what he became and was about to be dropped for Harper. A quick google shows Liverpol advertised for a lead data scientist with salary offered at 'market rate'. So presumably about half market rate. I wonder what the original thinking was behind it? Targeting Scotland to try and expand the fanbase? If so, it would be odd if they don’t do the same in Edinburgh, given it’s closer than Dundee? If I’m being (extremely) generous to them, I’d say it was maybe a reasonable idea at the time, when demand was maybe nowhere near what it is now, but nobody has stepped in and said ‘look, this probably isn’t really appropriate now’. GeordieT
Quote As for a new training ground, an offer did go in on one site this year but the price for the land became too high and Newcastle walked away. They are now looking at two other sites, including land near Gosforth Park and Ponteland. The club have been working with architects Populous on designs and it is hoped that progress will be made this autumn. Craig Hope on new training ground. Elsewhere suggests it’ll be sooner than a new / expanded stadium. Edited September 11, 2025 by GeordieT
