Our defensive solidity under Howe is probably the most consistent part of our game since he first arrived. Fairly miraculous given that he’s worked with lots of different defensive set ups and players. I know we had a spell when it dipped a bit when Joelinton was out and Tonali was banned but that was nothing to do with tactics and shape, was purely down to not having the players for midfield

Comparison of when we have picked-up points (first half of season) over last 5 seasons. So this year we have the same amount after five games as we did in 2022-23 (finished 4th on 71 pts) and 2023-24 (finished 7th on 60pts). No need to fret just yet.

Handy bit of data that. 👌

I'm not one of the worriers myself, in fact I don't really form any serious opinions til game week 10 (roughly ¼ of season).  Our next 5 PL games:

Arsenal (Home)

Forest (Home)

Brighton (Away)

Fulham (Home)

West Ham (Away)

I'd argue we need 9 points minimum to feel ok about our position, that would give us 15 points by game 10 which matches 2022-23 and last season. Can we win 3 of 5 fixtures listed above?

If we pick up 6 points it'll be a little concerning but regardless of where we stand by game 10, I'm hopeful the return of Wissa & Ramsay will give us a spark to kick-on.

Yep, I’m also confident that we’ll have a stronger than usual second half of the season (fingers crossed re injuries) as our newbies become fully established.

Every now and again someone will ask me, or I'll see a post on reddit or somewhere, about where the away pubs are in Newcastle or where won't let you in with colours. I love the fact we're not like that - the pubs round the station will naturally have more away fans but it's always mixed and you can go to any pub in the city (unless it's the derby) with your shirt on and be fine. Unlike say Villa away where you're segregated and forced into an "away pub".
