The season after that with Remy.

Krul

Debuchy

Santon

Coloccini

Mbiwa

Tiote

Cabaye

Sissoko

Ben Arfa

Remy

Cisse

Not world beaters, but I'd love to see Benitez with that talent.

Switch that defence with ours now and we’d be top 10 with ease.

Lascelles for Mbiwa would be the only change.

Dummett would play ahead of Santon for Rafa IMO. Prime Colo with Lascelles at CB would be brilliant like.

Barnes was very good for us I thought. Rush on the other hand... just shows how the wrong appointment can totally ruin things, sadly we’ve suffered it with Dalglish, Souness and then Pardew all ruining a good thing.

Dalglish and Souness without a doubt ruined a good thing. Slightly different with Pardew in that he just failed to correctly use a good thing imo. That 12/13 squad, man. Easily the best post SBR.

Agreed. That squad didn't have the strength in depth for a EL campaign though but Pardew just allowed the tragic summer to happen. Imagine if we actually did strengthen in that summer or if we got Rafa at the end of that season.

Chronicle reckon Lazaar has been frozen out of Benevento's team and they won't be signing him

Bit frustrating. Probably the only signing which was a bit of a pigs ear, seeing as Sels appears to be playing every week for Anderlecht. Mebs Gamez too but his contract's up at the end of the season, so no probs there.

At the end of last May we had the following to clear out:

Krul

Sels

Good

Hanley

Lazaar

Haidara

Gamez

Colback

Saivet

Vuckic

De Jong

Gouffran

Sammy

Thauvin

D Murphy

Riviere

Mitrovic

Serious job getting rid of all that unwanted shite but there's a good chance none of them will be on the books come September of this year. Rafa's done pretty well on that score; really quite galling that the existence of so much deadwood (the majority of which wasn't his, and even those which were had served a purpose in getting promoted, apart from Lazaar) stunted the ability to bring better players in.

I miss him. As bad as the last couple of years were he seemed to take to the place.

Until he itched to get away from said place, and performed terribly in the process. He was consistently flawless between 2010-2012 but it was such a relief to get shot of him by the end. Even during the good times I wish he'd tried to engage with the supporters even a little bit.

The way he tried to wriggle out of the club was a disgrace imo, club rightly told to where to go.  If you sign a contract you have to honour it.

Not too fond of him personally. Won't deny he was a good player for a couple of seasons. How he wanted out in the middle of a season when we could have really done with him focusing on Newcastle, his own performances and galvanising the group to sort their s*** out doesn't sit right for me. For me  he was at the core of toxicity in the group that put together many truly gutless performances across a few seasons.

Happen to think he was likely far too powerful within the squad at that time, without performances or any visable leadership on the pitch to back it up. Llmbias wanted rid of Barton/Nolan etc. and that left a huge void of leadership and senior pro mentality in the group, and don't think Colo ever did anything to fill that void.

Wish we'd just got rid of him the second he wanted out to Argentina. Total cowardice s*** bag of a captain in the latter years in my opinion. Good when the going was good, but non-existent once it got tough.

When Lascelles came out the other month and said that nobody would listen to McLaren, and the squad was a mess, you've got to wonder what the f*** Colo was doing at that point.

One Sky change for us in April

Sunday, April 15: Newcastle v Arsenal (1.30pm)

Hopefully they get past Milan in the Europa cos the QF 2nd leg is the Thursday before this so if they could be away in Kiev or somewhere similar, that would be marvellous .

Well this'll be a bit of a mess.

A 6-1 win for Spurs against Rochdale in their FA Cup Fifth Round replay on Wednesday night means that Newcastle's Premier League fixture at Wembley on Friday March 16th has been postponed.

Instead of hosting us, the Cockerels will now be in  Quarter Final action at Swansea City that weekend.

Their FA Cup progress does nothing to clarify when our game could now be played, with a Champions League campaign also clouding the issue.

Success against Juventus at Wembley next Wednesday  - it's 2-2 after the first leg - means that Spurs would be in midweek CL action again on 3rd/4th & 10/11th April.

And were they to progress further, then the semi-finals would be on April 24th/25th and May 1st/2nd.

PL live TV fixtures for April are now known, with Spurs at home to Manchester City on the evening of Saturday 14th April and away at Brighton on Friday April 20th.

However that latter game would be postponed were Spurs to be in FA Cup Semi-final action that same weekend, further muddying the waters.

Yep, now looking like if they get past Juve it’s gonna be right at the end of the season.
