If Stuart Attwell’s failure to send off Yohan Cabaye on Saturday infuriated Newcastle United supporters, then the following statistic will leave them positively incensed.

It is now 100 Premier League games - and a staggering 1,364 days - since an opposition player was dismissed against the Magpies.

Not since Bradley Johnson was given his marching orders in the 82nd minute on January 28, 2014 - alongside Newcastle’s Loic Remy, it must be noted - after an off-the-ball incident during United’s stalemate with Norwich City at Carrow Road has an opponent seen red against the Magpies in any competitive fixture.

More importantly, however, it is 105 top-flight games – and 1,397 days - since Newcastle played with a numerical advantage against a side due to an opposition player being sent off.

Interesting to know how many players should have seen red during that time too.

Obviously Cabaye at the weekend being 1.

Kane in the opening game makes two just this season.

the Huddersfield head kick, brighton stamp....

We don't seem to fare too well on penalties either.

This could just be dismissed as typical football fan bias towards their own team but there must be hard facts to back it up?

Last season we probably spent more time in the last third and opposition penalty area than any other team but had very few penalties compared to the teams around us. Some of the ones we were denied were nothing short of outrageous.

Saw a stat somewhere that over the last 5 seasons we've had fewer penalties awarded than Brighton got last season alone

TV picks for the last gameweek of December and the whole of January are announced on Friday. Can't see any of ours being picked apart from Man City (a) (which I hope they don't, been planning to go that for ages). But you never know.

Good job we aren’t away to Brighton as no doubt they’d move that to NYE!

As .com point out, Stoke aren't selected at all in December, so they'll be due a game. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see that get moved to a non-3pm ko on NYD or an evening ko on the 2nd.
