João Pedro - Chelsea Agree Deal With Brighton (Ornstein)

Always going to be tough to tempt players to come here as opposed to Chelsea unfortunately. Legit reasons to choose them over us too, just got to hope we have a plan B and move on. Not sure why we spent so long on the deal if he only wanted the Chelsea move though, that doesn't make sense to me

Seen this mentioned a few times now. We were obviously given some sort of encouragement that he was interested in us to pursue him.  Highly doubt we'd have been trying to sign him had that not happened.

What a waste of time. Only wanted Chelsea. Some journalist clearly had wrong info with Pedro being keen on a nufc move.

Or just reeled folk in once they took the bait. It’s not journalism it’s click bait speculative bollox. Until Ornstein posts [emoji38]

He clearly didn’t want to come here, think he’d have chosen any London club over us. We absolutely must only sign players who want to be here and embrace Eddie and the club.

It’s a huge disadvantage and it won’t change, certainly not in the short/ medium term.

As for Chelsea; they’re just playing to a different set of rules to everyone else.

He seems like a right prick anyway. I was very much against signing him from Watford and we ended up with Isak and wasn’t that bothered this time. We’ll pull a gem from somewhere we always do

Disappointing as he was clearly going to be a big part of Eddie’s plans and maybe evolve the way we play to some extent in the coming season.

Hard to blame him, really. Seven year deal means he’s basically locked into a wonderful wage for the entire prime of his career. Decent chance he steps up quickly and establishes himself as a central figure for them and if not he’ll end up with a nice loan move to Italy or Spain when Chelsea move on to the next shiny object in a couple of years. I hope it all goes very poorly for him, in any case.

I guess we’ll see how well prepared we are for the summer now, feels like a really big target has got away from us and the recruitment team will hopefully show that they have other quality options in the pipeline.

I’m not that bothered about him coming or not personally. I’m more concerned about what the club are actually doing in this window and the ‘small group of targets’. Can’t have been much homework done on this deal.

Hopefully this is the catalyst for us to stop pissing about with premier league clubs and go and seek some actual value abroad again.

The good thing about him at Chelsea is he’s got a bit of an attitude problem and there are a lot of wankers associated with the club. Going to run myself a schadenfreude bath and soak in it for hours when it all goes to shit there for him and them

Could also be a strategy of Chelsea to just buy everyone we go for.  That way they can ensure they finish above us.

You have to remember we only know what journalists tell us. Don’t forget the same journalists were telling us Pedro was a done deal last time all while we were working on a deal for Isak.

All they need to do now is buy Eddie Howe, cos the mercenaries they hire as first team coach aren’t fit to lace his boots. Sadly, we seem a long way from being able to overtake a club with even less history than us. Hope Man City tear PSR a new one. A level playing field is all I ask for.
