But I dont think its that bad if we stick to our ground and only let him go for what we believe his value is. I kinda also don't want those type of players here, so when they show their hands good riddance I'd say. Eddie himself said that he only wanted players who are desperate to play here. And on the other hand if we don't let him get his "dream move" it also can have a negative impact on players wanting to come here. Don't think supporters will lose faith if we sell and him reinvest massively into the squad. Sure people can be sceptical about if we will do that considering how the summer so far has gone. But we have always stayed close to our PSR limit so far and i don't see why that will change myself. And I'm assuming that if he goes it will be with the "blessing" of Eddie, its not like i want the club to overrule him on this matter. This is the only caveat for me, if Howe thinks we can sell him and replace him with a player he wants fair enough. I'm not a fan of this, and supposedly Howe is really good friends with Richard Hughes and will have discussed the move to Liverpool according to Graham Bailey - so take with a pinch of salt - but it's not a great look unless everything is on our terms. Liverpool need to bid big if they are serious otherwise I would be questioning this supposed friendship between Howe and Hughes.
sixx
Can't really recall the Harry Kane transfer saga but did Spurs hold out for a bid from abroad so they wouldn't antagonize their fans by selling him to another PL club?
RobS
World Cup year, late in the window, no exec team and people covering roles - Alexander is going to have to accept he needs to stay this year, work hard, play well and score a lot of goals and get his move next summer when we are in better position to do something about it. Hopefully by then the new CEO and Sporting Director are in place and have a plan on what to do with his sale money. If that money's 20-30 mil less than we would get now, so be it. Rather have a little less money but have more time and a plan and a team of people in place to do something with it than get more now and it just get rushed and wasted. Don't think antagonising the fans would have been the reason for holding out, but holding out is what they did. No - I think they expected the big cash to come from City & then they went with Haaland. I dont think Levy was going to let fan opinion stop him from getting the biggest fee
kingxlnc
Saw a video saying the Newcastle created the most open play chances in Europe last season. Obviously this was in relation to Sesko vs Man Utd, and how NUFC would be better just from a career perspective as Man U don’t create that many chances for their front players. Isak has benefitted from this creativity for two years plus so it’s absolutely no guarantee he will smash it at Liverpool

Makes me more optimistic that any reasonable quality forward can do what we need in that position.
The Prophet
Do we think Liverpool may not have been expecting Isak's reaction? They unsettled him, were told "not for sale", moved on and bought Ekitike, then Isak played his hand. It would explain why they haven't moved yet. They aren't in a hurry as they think they hold the cards and would rather shift players first.

Hard to believe Isak wouldn’t have told them in private his plans but who knows, they needed to act quickly as we would have signed Ekitike and now they’re in a position where they don’t want / need Ekitike and Isak as they can’t field them both along with Salah

They likely know it’ll be a flat out no if we don’t have a single striker at the club Osula aside. Also think the delay is helping in unsettling Isak even further. It’s all strategy

If we let him go there we deserve absolutely everything we get tbh. Alright 'always' if we're being pedantic? Usually would have been better for vocab 🤓 I just feel like we're past it, not in a pessimistic way, just a probability way, also the managers body language comments, it's all gearing toward the inevitable. Definitely no a 'told you so attitude' but brace yourself for disappointment, even on the fee. Edited July 29, 2025 by mighty__mag

They didn’t sign anyone that summer, then signed Haaland following year. Kane then had no options, stayed another year before Levy cashed in final year for £100m or he’d leave for free. No. They are losing 4 forwards and Salah is a year older. They are not stopping with Ekitike. They want Isak and another young wide forward.

Just a quick search for the high profile ones: Suarez, Coutinho, Ronaldo, Rooney, Kane, Neymar, Mahrez, Aubemeyang, Lukaku, Diego Costa, Tevez, Fabregas, Pogba, Van Dijk, Zaha, Payet. All took the nuclear option and failed, with their clubs holding out and doing any combo of: keeping them, getting an increased fee, selling them to another club, letting them leave on a free. Those are just the high profile ones where players have gone nuclear as well. We only need to look back at Guehi last summer for a more run of the mill example where the player hasn't acted like a dick.

Ketsbaia
£135m would get laughed out the door. Yous desperately want him? Pay the fee. Don't want him that much? Then fine, fuck you, he's got 3 more years on his contract. From then, it looks bad for Isak to down tools. I think it's out-of-character anyway. But would Liverpool (or better) come back next summer if he's conducted himself like this? Sweden could qualify for the World Cup too.

From what I heard Bayern didn't pay £100m, Levy just put that out there to keep the fans happy at Spurs. It was more like £60m according to Bayern.
