We should've seen this coming and I'm annoyed it's come to this. The smart move would be to arrange a decent pay rise and a manageable clause for him to go next summer, giving us time to sort out a replacement.

This potential acrimony is so amateurish and damaging.

Fingers crossed the club tell Liverpool to rub their £130 million in their pubes.

Ideally Saudi or a club on the continent if he has to go, under no condition should we help strengthen any of the Sky 6 and especially not the Scousers.

Except PIF have been buying the castoffs of said 6.

Strengthening them financially.

220m or he rots in the reserves. take it or leave it

Best player that's worth over £130m to rot in the reserves. Doesn't help us on pitch, doesn't help us with recruitment, makes others think twice about signing for us. Yeah, right, fantasy, never happening.

Think we need to be pragmatic here. Arrange a deal with the player that includes a release clause for next summer of less than his full value (maybe a clause of £100m?) Which will enable hom to negotiate a bumper pay package with whoever he goes to. Whether this is a gentlemans agreement or in the guise of a new contract with slight pay increase I don't care.

Explain to him that the club simply cannot afford to lose him this summer for a myriad of reaspns, not least that his replacement hasn't been found yet.

If he doesn't go for that then he's got 2 options to either carry on as is or to go in a strop, refuse to play etc. Which will involve outing himself as a stroppy cunt and accordingly reduce his value to any self-respecting top club and therefore his negotiating position with them.

Would be the right approach but whether it would work is a different matter.

Well we hold all the power. Depends if we decide we’d rather have some money than an unhappy player I guess.

Obviously the player normally gets what he wants, but we’re potentially talking about a good CL campaign plus a top 5 finish vs battling for Europa League, so it’s a very important decision.

£150m+ outside the PL. Either that or we keep him for 3 years and let him leave for free. If he downs tools at any time sue him for his value.

He has little power here, he needs reminding of that. If we can get the right deal then I'm not that bothered. Players move on, and he's one leg injury away from being half the player he currently is.

He’s the literal resource. He has plenty of power.

Not enough to force us to do anything. But we have to meet him somewhere satisfactory for all parties.

Only way things can be softened if the worse was to happen.

Watkins £55m

Sesko £60m

MGW £60m

Then remaining funds we had earmarked anyway wraps up Guehi £40m, Trafford £35m and a younger RB like Couto for £40m+

we shouldn't play nice with our competition. no one gets points for being "nice guys". they're coming in cheap for what they're getting. i know it. you know it. if that's their best/final offer we should trebuchet Mitchell at them in response

Who are the potential bidders?

Allegedly, Liverpool, Barcelona and Al-Hilal

... at this point I'd take a Saudi offer of £180m, then tell the other two to match it or fuck off. If we sell to Liverpool our owners lose serious face all round. There can't be any issue from the league over fair market value due to the obvious interest and examples from other sales and even if there was complaint about PIF selling to another team they're involved in, there's already legal precedence of much more obvious rigging from Chelsea selling themselves hotels and women's teams - if they want to go legal, then so be it, use this as the blue touch paper to string the PSR cheating fucks up.

Get minimum £140m and send him on his way

It's a shitter, but there's always opportunities. Players come and go.

We've hit the glass ceiling, and to be fair quicker than I thought we would. But the club needs to improve off the field, or the words about competing at the top will start to sound hollow.

This is it. Until the infrastructure (ground, training centre) and football department (CEO, DoF, Technical Director) are sorted out we’re tapping out on growth and reliant on Eddie’s magic.

A 70k ground with expanded commercial revenue and off field set up where we’re not relying on the Manager to do 5 jobs would be a nice direction of travel.

Disappointed, but we are showing no ambitions for him to stay either. A mess really..

Aye fuck it.

Sell the club back to Ashley.

At least we knew where we stood then...

Well this was always the risk- missing out in target after target cannot have helped. Though clearly been tapped up, if Slot spoke to Ekitike he'll have spoke to Isak as well.
