They and Isak will come worse out of this imo.

Nothing will happen to Liverpool like. They'll be hailed for freeing Isak from his torture and be sucked off by the media for the rest of the season. Newcastle need to know their place etc. etc.

Bloke scored the winning goal in the first cup win in most of our lives yet will be leaving a bigger prick than Michael Owen [emoji38]

This. He has cast a shadow over our best-ever season in living memory, disrupted our pre-season preparations, undermined our transfer business throughout the window, and sullied irreparably the adoration from this passionate fanbase (and his reputation with other fans and pundits). It's a helluva scorched-earth policy when it was literally easier to just act like a fucking professional and get the business done without antagonising anyone.

This stance can only strengthen our resolve.

I hate unsalvagable situations but if that's the way he wants it :dontknow:   the club will be around a lot longer than his career will. Off to the reserves with ye.

For the first time since the option was brought up I am thinking he might just wait until the 27th and pull the article 17 shenanigans, and hope Liverpool will just wait on him.

They won't though. They don't value him that highly and won't go anywhere near the £150m IMO.

They'll hope we relent and sell for a lot less, maybe £120-130m otherwise they'll sign someone else I reckon.

take £130m and move on

Nah, that's what he and Liverpool want

Giving in to them is the last thing we need to do

I'd personally not sell at all but if we are going to then it has to be at the £150m that we've seemingly put out there as the price it would take, anything less and we've been made to look like mugs

Would that not be a breach of contract?

We terminate his contract for breach; he then goes to Liverpool. That’s what he wants.

I am not an employment lawyer but we sue him for breach of contract, for £150m if you were, but he still goes to Liverpool who probably indemnify him for any damages. Any court action will take years. To be honest that would set a terrible precedent for football so if I was advising Liverpool I would not go anywhere near that.

Article 17 is fifa's rules around transfers and such. the TL;DR is if he stays at here until the 26th, he’ll be past the "three-year protected period" under Article 17 of his contract, which mean that then he could legally end the contract by paying compensation on his remaining wages and sign immediately with whoever he wants

I don’t think it’s that easy.

in the end he's going to look back and realize it wasn't worth it to set everything on fire. head turned by greedy agents? always a cunt on the inside?

If we have ambitions to break into top echelons of European football, we cant be seen to be allowing our best plyers to leave. Especially to one of our league rivals.

Hopefully someone else comes in like PSG or Barcelona and we can close this chapter.

It's a super bad look for a lot of reasons but they're setting fire to every bridge that gets built so what else are they hoping for?

Surely it can't be that easy, means they get him for less than £20m

Surely there has to be another amount factored into it

I think he's just a cold calculating type tbh. He doesn't have loyalty to anyone except himself. Same will be true if he moves to Liverpool and Barcelona come calling.

I genuinely cant understand the mentality of anyone who says "get rid" or "let him go" etc.

Do they not realise by giving him what he wants we are just allowing other players to do the same?

Make him stay, his value will hold. Sell him next summer and add a Liverpool tax.

The crucial thing in all of this is making sure we get Wissa. Wissas injury record is good and would probably see us through most of the season. We could even find a loan deal for someone to support him.

The biggest factor is if Isak can do it to us, Isak, Salah, Gakpo, Eikitike can do it to them and Barcelona, Real Madrid etc can just indemnify the players for the lost earnings, and there won't be any transfer fees for anyone anymore.

Probably is that easy in theory but no club wants to rely on it because as soon as the precedent is set the resale value of players drops to effectively zero.

Some more from the Ornstein piece:

- told Howe he wanted out 2 weeks before season ended

- reiterated this message to Howe after the final day defeat to Everton and flew home to Sweden the day after

Putting in a transfer request means less money for him, it's so pathetic when you are refusing to play.

well,no, I put tl;dr because there's a lot of process skipped but the long and short of it is he can do that under fifa contract laws/rules. might be snarled in court for a short while but he could get out "for cheap" and there's no evidence the club he signed for instigated it.
