Same. I really thought with CL we’d get to keep him and he’d have been up for another year.  I mean we’re hardly a dead club

Carragher speaks:

Some Liverpool fans see Isak’s hard line as a cause for celebration.

But Carragher, who sounds decidedly lukewarm about the deal, is not one of them.

“I don’t like it when a player downs tools,” he tells The i Paper.

“I wouldn’t like it if it was a Liverpool player and I do feel for the Newcastle fans a bit.

“He’s obviously a god to them, a hero.”

Carragher’s position is that he thinks Isak will be at Anfield before 1 September.

He believes Newcastle fans, begrudgingly, will recognise that he wants to compete for the biggest trophies.

But taking the nuclear option of refusing to be considered for selection is never the right path.

“I don’t think any Newcastle fan is naive to think that Alexander Isak is going to spend his whole career at the club,” Carragher, speaking on behalf of Sky Sports ahead of the new season, continues.

“Sometimes a problem occurs – and it happened at Liverpool when I was there with Steven Gerrard – where the player outgrows the club. He’s almost too good and that’s what has probably happened here.

“Newcastle are delighted to be in the Champions League, Isak wants to win it. That’s when you have a problem and the player wants to move on. So I’ve got no problem with Isak wanting to leave but he’s in a difficult situation with his contract because Newcastle have the power and there’s three years to go. Should he have had a buy-out clause, should he be looking at his agent now he finds himself in this position?

“Transfers happen every summer but I don’t think you should ever go toxic or nuclear where you refuse to play or train. That may be what forces the move in the end, so who am I to say it’s wrong, but I just don’t like it. They’re paying his wages, they’ve been great to you, you’ve been great for them, just keep training, keep playing and hope a deal gets done.”

I genuinely can't think of a Newcastle player that has behaved similarly in the last 30 odd years, you could say Owen, but he was at the end of his contract, so it's not really comparable. Cabaye maybe? But he gets away with it for being a sexy french lad and for rebelling against Ashley, so it was understandable.

Think it's also very telling that Isak himself hasn't actually said a single word (that I'm aware of) about the entire situation. He's feigned an injury, refused to play at Celtic, refused to go on tour, refused to rejoin the group and doesn't want to play for the club any longer but he's not even had the bollocks to say so himself. He's done it all through his agent, Romano, Ornstein and Jacobs. Not only is he a snidey cunt but he's a cowardly snidey cunt too. I'd at least have had a modicum of respect for him if he'd said something like "I've loved it here at Newcastle for 3 years but I want to move on and move to an even bigger club, I'll still play for Newcastle and do my best as I'm under contract but I'm looking to move on". It would have stung but at least he would have been honest about it. The way he's actually gone about things this last 6 weeks has been disgraceful, no the wonder every cunt now hates him, including his own mates. Snidey, gutless, two-faced, cowardly, little weasel-like cunt, he's a fucking snake

Isn’t the point to give himself a way back in if he doesn’t get his move?

Much harder to walk back quotes that he has made directly than to come out and say “a lot of things that have been said in the media aren’t true and that after reflection I’m looking forward to another great season with Newcastle…” blah blah blah.

Fairly sure his agent has told him to keep his head down, say nothing and he’ll get him the move. Where it will get interesting for Isak is if he fails to deliver on that promise.

I do suspect Isak’s arse will be getting twitchy. Public opinion does seem to be turning against him, his current teammates all seem to hate him now and his club is doing a pretty convincing stare down and may end up keeping him.

I hope he’s deeply unhappy and lonely.

I was racking my brains about this earlier and I think that in my time only Cabaye has done anything remotely similar.

As shitty as it was, we were a husk of a club that had just gone from 5th to 16th and when he didn't get his own way he threw a tantrum for a wee bit but was then welcomed back into the fold and played well for the following few months before getting his move.

Needs to be over £150 million.  Even if its just £150,000,000.01.  Preceded by a written transfer request. That would show that we won and that Isak, his gangster agent, Liverpool and their press lackeys all lost.

Saying nothing is his best strategy at the moment, because it gives him some plausible deniability even though most of us see right through it. As I said before, from experience, often times silence is by far the best strategy.

I understand it gives him a way out but if he'd been honest then he would have almost certainly got his move and he wouldn't have needed a way out

He's decided to go down this route and anything he says should the move not happen is irrelevant. He's now made himself a pariah, he's an outcast, his mates have washed their hands of him. There is no coming back from this, his actions this last 6 weeks have sealed the whole thing completely off. He can deny it all he wants, Newcastle fans and players aren't daft, they know exactly what he's deliberately engineered here. He's fucking toast here imo

I hope the players are as disappointed in / angry with him as it seems they might be.

If nothing else we know what we’re like when we’ve got something to galvanise us.

The atmosphere against Liverpool at SJP is going to be like hellfire, I want us to shred those cunts apart more than sunderland

Heard Romano said on youtube that the last bid was not £110m, but £120m with addons. And that the second bid will be higher.

Not sure what he meant by £120m with addons though, 120m included addons or 120m + addons?

He’s a compulsive liar and attention seeking social media wanksplat who’s being utilised and paid by Liverpool. Don’t believe anything the cunt says

I mean really?

Isak is being a cunt in every way, but you should know the consequences of actually talking shit out right in Media about your current employer.

If he went havoc on Newcastle in Media he'd be cleaning the toilets and more for the coming three years.

Bid was £110m with add ons. Romano is just a weirdo and says £120m including add ons. Which is the fee of the first one, which everyone reported on expect Romano.

Why would he push the price expectations up if he was paid by Liverpool?

Because he’s revising history by trying to make NUFC look unreasonable for the way we immediately told Liverpool to fuck right off when they made a derisory offer

His whole agenda is to make us look like we’re being cunts and create the false narrative that we’re holding Isak against his will whilst Liverpool make fair offers

Romano & Ornstein are absolutely being paid by the Liverpool / Isak side to push an agenda for them, it’s not even subtle

Seems a little bit far-fetched to me.
