Certainly not in the same bracket as Barca, Real, Bayern, Man U & Liverpool.

For finishing second in the premier league, are they fuck. Sky really dredging the barrel with their panel as well.

They’re just setting themselves up for more self-inflicted misery. Come September Isak won’t be playing for Arsenal, then what are they going to say about it? They’re going to act like they’re being hard done to.

Right, so... since the takeover, which of these 'big' clubs have come and taken our best players off us? 🤔

Especially with the clubs he mentioned [emoji38]

Man Utd - Owen was a free transfer, Dubravka was a loan.  Must be on about Andy Cole in 1995?

Real Madrid - Woodgate in 2003?

Man City - Given in 2009?

Arsenal fans have an inflated opinion about the size of their club. In the PL era their best players (Henry, Bergkamp, Viera) were rescued from the bench/sub-par stints in Serie A. When have Arsenal ever went out and bought the best in class (or very close) striker or midfielder? They don’t have that pull. Isak is a pipe dream and something they would discount if they actually thought about it for 5 minutes.

Sadly, other than Shearer, a lot of the issue was that we didn’t have the players as opposed to Ashley holding out. See Carroll, Andy

Arsenal were a couple of years away from ending up like Man Utd/Spurs are now. They got lucky with Arteta when they did but that seems to be spiralling downwards now.

No one in world football can afford Isak at £150M aside from 3 clubs (Man City, Real Madrid and PSG). Two of those clubs already have a main striker and the other is moving away from the crazy money spending currently.

Bayern have never historically spent insane amounts on players (£80M highest fee paid) which I why I didn't mention them even though they could afford Isak, they have Kane for now.

Bayern can buy him when he's 31 for £100m.

If anything we’ve shown more ambition in our signings than them

Tonali. Isak, Bruno. Ben Arfa. Shearer, Kluivert. Theirs are mostly promising talents, have to think back to Ozil when they bought peak talent for top money

In fairness, they are in the same bracket as Man U and Liverpool like. But then again, we are not that far off.

Even Ozil was surplus to requirements at Real, just like Odegaard.

Arsenal are nowhere near those two in terms of worldwide standing like. Miles off them.

Yes true

Rice was obviously a big baller move, but it was a mid-table club so a natural upgrade.
Sol Campbell at the time - but Spurs were also mid at the time.
Bergkamp was out of favour at Inter
Henry had flopped at Juve
Vieira had flopped at Milan
Overmars was a big name though
Rosicky was also fairly big
Aubemeyang and Alexis were good players but never one of the top 10 strikers in the world at their peaks

Interesting how big they think they are.

Wenger was a genius tbh.

Arsenal have spent so much money on players they don’t actually need. Merino, Havertz, Calafiori…even Rice. Then you have Sterling, Jorginho etc. Their forward play relies entirely on Saka. Martinelli has turned absolutely wank. I think they missed their window for winning something and didn’t build on those foundations with the right buys.

They shipped out Smith Rowe and Nketiah good good money. They could probably do it ffp wise but it would leave them penniless. Also fan wanking aside we've got no idea if anyone inside Arsenal actually would be willing to take it that far for him. Cheaper option exists for them.

The main thing we have to focus on right now is increasing our allowance for higher wages for our better players.

The only reason the likes of Isak would consider leaving is due to the financial package on offer elsewhere.

All these older guys in the media that think players are going to move purely due to the 'bigger club' moniker are stuck in the past.

In reality no club outside of Man City has won anything consistently for a while now, and you are not guaranteed winning anywhere else other than them. And they are even having a wobble of their own right now.

Regarding Arsenal specifically, his current Newcastle team have beaten them twice already this season, and it's looking like they will be out of the two domestic cups. His current team also plays a style that allows him to thrive while Arsenal are currently being ridiculed for their slow, tedious play going forward.

Isak is the lead man in a team on the rise that is competing for a Champions League place with Arsenal, and is still in both domestic cups. A team that is on a run of 8 wins straight.

So what exactly is he looking at gaining at Arsenal, if we are able to give him a competitive wage increase at the end of the season?

Even with the FFP/PSR wiggle room they have, they don't have the type of owners that will spend big continuously.

I Do not see their owners backing a move to spend £150 million odd on a player.

The Rice move was more of a one off from them rather than something they'll be getting into the habit of doing.

This remains to be seen. We don't know the extent of the ambition the owners have. Ignore the noise coming from the weirdo arsenal fans. They've invested big and consistently for awhile now.

Yeah, I think they will continue to invest.

I just don't see them bank rolling a move for one player that costs £150 million.

But we'll see I guess.
