Remember where we were and how far we've come, lads. Top 6 this season would be terrific and we've got a Wembley cup final to look forward to as well.

Perspective. :)

I'm not whining, I was just adding to the point being made

I am more than delighted with our progress this year.

Carragher asking Souness and Micah Richards why they'd have Shearer above Kane.

Both annoyingly not making the obvious points. He had 3 major injuries and did it in a largely hit and miss Newcastle team. Kane will never be on the level Shearer was in his prime.

Missed a chunk of 1992-93, half of 1997-98 and half of 2000-01 and still got the goals he did.

And played for four seasons before Sky invented football, so somehow his actual goal tally is curtailed.  Shearer is, in reality, the fifth highest scorer in top flight history.  Kane will be around 30th at the moment.

Edit: this also makes Shearer the highest scoring player of the last 50 years, and by a comfortable margin

There is the potential for Kane to not only break Shearers record, but smash it.

It's maybe a better debate in three or four years time. Kane isn't there yet.

Shearer also played in some awful Newcastle sides.

Only thing stopping Kane breaking the record is Real Madrid if they go in with a big bid to replace Benzema. Otherwise, he breaks it before the next World Cup.
